Hi All,

I have a 944 S2 race car, which used to run early engine, running gear and brakes in an S2 shell with 15" wheels.

I've recently completed the S2 engine swap which has made a massive improvement to power but the brakes are now a bit lacking.

I have an S2 donor car which the engine came from, so I have the S2 Brembo calipers, hubs, spindles etc available, however I'm aware the swap is a reasonably involved process, before I go down that route I thought I'd ask to see what other after market options may be available?

I would prefer to keep wheel size to 15 or 16" max.

I'm aware of a Wilwood 4 pot conversion for the front brakes but am unsure if that will be sufficient for my application? Or whether AP or similar performance manufacturers offer a suitable alternative?

Any help will be much appreciated!

I would stick with the brembo setup. Decent bolt on option. And huge range of pad choice and cheap discs to suit. With decent pads such as the pagid rs range. Carbon lorraine or performance friction etc all giving awesome performance.

Obviously dont forget high temp fluid and braided lines.

S2 brakes have the small calipers as stock. Medium fronts can be found on m030 cars or 968cs/928 s4 with slightly larger discs as well a bonus.

In your position I would go with one of these three:

-S2 Brembo conversion
-Wildwood conversion (if the costs are reasonable and the pad/piston area is equal or better than the above and the setup is cheaper)
-Boxster setup (IIRC this kit can fit on and you don't have the plate lift issues either (possibly).
-M030 (but I doubt you would fit 15" on that way, but it is arguably the best setup for a 944/968 and 928.

As above, good brake fluid (ATE Super Blue is good VFM) will help as will good pads.

Thanks for your help guys!

S2 Brembos sounds like it might be the way to go. Just need bigger wheels, swap the hubs and spindles, fit the ABS bobbins, easy right? :D

I was also toying with the idea of dumping the brake servo and installing a pedal box with separate reservoirs and a brake proportioning valve. If I go down this route, will the S2 Brembos function correctly without the ABS bits?

why don't you just bin the abs and run pedal box with bias. calipers will work perfectly well without abs.

if your running bigger wheels worth upgrading the front calipers to M030 size, found on 944 m030, 968cs and 928 s4.

decent pads and increased disc size will see the biggest gain in braking performance and reduce any chance of fade which is your worst enemy on track. spend as much as you can afford on the best pads, they may seems expensive at £2-300 but they will give the biggest gain in braking performance than any other mod, and they are quite hard wearing so last.
