Holaaa

Ok, so now I've had a few miles under the wheels I can happily say the car is once more a runner!

However, I have just one engine related niggle - when cruising on a neutral throttle the thing is hunting and surging.. Not too much but maybe two or three times a second until I give it more gas - imagine a gentle version of traffic light kangaroo juice and you'll have a good idea of what it's like. ...

The ABS warning light is on too - I cleaned the rings and senders when I did the wheels and discs,
not too worried but it would be nice to lose the warning light on the dash...

Any thoughts welcomed!

Does it feel like a slight misfire?

TT ... no not really, it feels as if the accelerator is being touched slightly two or three times a second but only on a neutral throttle like trying to hold 40mph. It's got new plugs and is firing on all four cylinders, and when you ask nicely (like I did a couple of times this afternoon ) you can stamp on the gas and away she goes right upto 6k without complaint.

I know the Mrs will moan at this - silly I know but women can be strange chaps at times but we have got a long way to go in it next week ...

It sounds like an early symptom of a rubber-doughnut style clutch starting to "go". "Jerking slightly or kangarooing sligtly while under light throttle at 40mph in 4th" is a classic sign. Don't worry too much, though, my car did 18k miles like that before the clutch started to seriously slip.
