So although my tyres on the Turbo have loads of tread the date stamp on them says 2007. I think the side walls have gone hard because the car tramlines quite badly. I'm looking to replace them and a few years ago all the 968 guys were running Falken 452s and were raving about their all round capabilities. These aren't available now so what are you guys using/recommend.

Cheers,

James

Pleased to be able to contribute to a topic so soon!!! :bounce:

Not sure your tyres are out of date at 7 years, although you haven't said what brand/use, but I have 12 year old Conti's on mine and they don't tramline. Have you checked there is no wear in your suspension/bushes??

However, I have asked the same question recently to my local specialist and, much to my surprise, has recommended the Barum Bravarius 2 which, he claims, is fitted to all his Porsche cars. The caveat is, they are soft compound so may not last. If you can live with this (maybe only doing 1-2k a year) it may be a cheap alternative to Conti's. These tyres are made by Continental in the Czech Rep and are being marketed by them against Toyo. Make of it what you will, but maybe worth a look?

The current fave with the 968 club is

Sessanta's, really quiet on the road and great looking too

I'm going to try out the standard federal 595 SS not the race tyres

I'm using Goodyear Eagle F1's which work lovely. Great grip in all weather.

Hankook Ventus on my car and wet or dry they seem fine.
Truth be known these cars really handle and grip so well that tyres that are not much good on other cars will still be fine, so harder to judge.

I had 9 year old Pirelli's on my car and they were rubbish in the bends.

Hi :)

Falken 452s were replaced by Falken 453s ....and are even better...

I use them as do a lot of other Porsche owners...

All the best Brett :)

I've got two sets of wheels.
One with the Barum's and they're not bad but prefer the Bridgestones for the more spirited driving.

I have Michelin PS2's on my 944 turbo and Continental Contisports on my A4 quattro, I'd recommend both.

She's currently sat on Goodyear Eagle F1. I've checked all bushes all have no play. The tyre pressures are also correct. My fathers 996T was terrible for tramlining when he got it, date code suggested 5 years old but took the hit with new rubber all round to find the issue was gone.

I fitted the 452's to a previous car and was impressed with their all round ability. Perhaps this is the way to go?

I can't find these in the correct size? Are you two running the 17's?

Thanks for the feedback so far

Wait, why would tramlining be because of old tires? tramlining is because of heavy trucks beading the roads and tire size/track width.
I had no tramlining with shitty old tires of one size(245) and once i moved to brand new premium tires of another size(225) the car now tramlines a bit.

I used Conti sport 3 and now Conti sport 5, the best tire i ever used is the 5. Very well balanced dry and wet grip, tons of grip dry and wet. no noise, and nice confort.
Car is on rails up to 260 km/h
