The 924 (except the 924S) dont really rust and they are older than the 944 or 968.
Buy 924 :D

I agree, my 81 924 is way better bodily than than any of my 3 944's

I would expect the 968 to suffer the same problem areas as a late 944, its pretty much the same shell.

I have not seen any posts about 68's needing sills so I don't think they do rot as much

Some people say the later cars are more susceptible to rot, my 944 is a 91 and the inside of the sills looked fine when I stuck a camera inside them, but it's been a fair weather car for the last 15+ years. Porsche were in financial trouble in the 90's and 968 owners that think their cars wont rot are dreaming if the car has had 20+ winters of wet salt chucked at the underside.

I cant answer the 968 question but i can also back up the 924 statements. My 924 was really not looked after at all by previous owners but the bodywork including sills are still rock solid after 32 years. Considering the 924 was launched as a Porsche for the normal folk it seems strange the the deisgn or build materials promoted rot as the car evolved into the 944, 968 etc?

They don't.

Much much better in comparison. I have a 968 now. Viewed many in the past and have had several 944s - generally the sills are significantly better on the 968. That's not to say they don't rot but are much better based on my experience.

My 968 is almost 21 and shows no sign of having any problems.

In addition I've never seen any posts regarding the replacement of 968 sills.

I guess they built them before the bean counters could mess things up.

I use both my 968 and my 924 on alternate weeks, as daily transport in all weathers, and have had no problems with either, I do check inside the sills on the cars with a bore scope now and then, and both cars have been wax oiled in all the suspect areas. You look after the thing, and it will last. Certainly no rot on my 'ladies' who are now 30 yrs, and 22 yrs old respectively .

think the big decider was the 68 was built on a different production line to the 944

Yes VW built the 944, but the 968 came back in house at Zuffenhausen.... as far as I recall....

Afraid that's just not correct . For a start the sills on a 968 are totally different to the 944.
