I havnt used the car yet and have only had it running on the drive but now it starts first time but only runs for a round 15 to 20 seconds then cuts out, its got a quater of a tank of fuel but the battery is struggling to turn her over as fast as she did do you think it could just be down to a low battery or is there somewhere else I should be looking at, cheers for any help.

Will it restart as soon as it stops? Is the fuel pump running? Will it keep going if you give it some beans? Does it peter out or cut stone dead?

i had the same issue with mine. Drove fine from london to birmingham then next day wouldnt start. Changed the DME relay without any joy and then found that the fuse for the fuel pump in the aux fuse box had blown.

where do I find the aux fuse box please? I have been on Clarkes site and did the three wire trick instead of having the dme relay in and I can now hear the pump running but it still cuts out. Also not sure if its the same issue but the starter has started to stick sometimes and the battery was saying it was flat and turning the car over so I had a fiddle in the boot and the battery is now saying charged but it still sticks but I can live with that if I could get it running constantly to start with.

Hi Frogg

I had the same problem with my 944 a while back tried all the usual things DME, fuel pump etc.,
the problem turned out to be the pressure regulator on the end of the fuel rail. it was causing the engine to flood
by not letting fuel back to the tank.
The only way I had of checking it was with the Porsche test gear (a friend of a friend) it showed the pressure in the return line was in excess of 5bar and did not drop as it should.
I purchased a new valve from my local bosch fuel injection dealer for £40 and the car was right as rain.
Hope this helps
(there are two regulators on the fuel rail the one at the front of the engine smooths out the pulses from the fuel pump)

The one on the line in is the pressure reg. The one on the line out is a damper. A faulty pressure reg may stop it running but the damper would just make it rougher. There standard Bosche bits also used on VW's of that era. The ones I took off mine ended up on a Golf. GSF might be worth a try if you give them the part no'. But test first. Think your on the right track :) (They pop up on ebay for peanuts if you just want to rule it out.)

Well I sprayed everything in wd40 and gave the wiring a good clean up aswell taking the dme relay apart and cleaning up the joints and solders where dirt etc had begun to form and left it for a week or 2. I decided because of the weather I would move the car to the side of the house and put up my make shift garage, gazeebo, up there because it was more sheltered and supported and bingo it fired up first time so I sat there waiting for it too stop and it didnt so I turned her off restarted and again it ran fine and has done ever since that day. I have driven it up and down the drive to try and dislodge anything that may have caused it to start with but no she keeps running like a good un so christ knows what it was but a dme relay is been sorted as a spare just in case. I have also managed to mop the paint work and couldnt believe how she has come up shines like new, newish. I have ordered a rear valance and some 968 side sills so once there on its a switch for the fan and off too the mot station so on the road by xmas is my goal fingers crossed.
