Hi Keith, I'm an ex turbo owner and looking for another just now.

There are a number of interesting threads on this forum and others.... However, there is a chap over on pcgb who has just started to list loads of spares from an abandoned "monster" turbo build. Have a look. However, probably worth stating it won't be cheap to get where you want to go.

Many of the folk run mildly modified cars (= Promax or LR stage 2 kits) - you're still looking at perhaps £1500 (fitted) to achieve 285-315bhp (approx range) - though this transforms for the car itself nevertheless.

Where are you located?

General train off thought is 400+ will require new tested rods and engine build. Not that a stock will fail but went 400 is the goal new rods etc seem to be a while your in there approach.

Head work may be nessery as well.

Without doing the work yourself, I would expect more then a few grand.

Your need a turbo, 2/3k extra if your go for a soultion that's not bolting and requires fab work. But it will help you reach your goals without creating lag. Boost at 4k is 100mph in 5th

Exhaust with 3" discharge pipe. 1/2k

Your need engine management and fueling and air intake work. 1.5/2k there

Boost control, waste gate and controller 500/1k

Don't think any LR turbo will see you over 400hp not even 61 without head work.

Not had a final tune and dyno mine yet but I would like to think I'm around that area.

Depending on the car you buy budget for between £5-10k for that 420 bhp. Seeing as a good turbo is probably £8-10k are you sure it's the car for you ?.

hi
thank you for the comments
yes its the car for me :D as i have had big power audi's in the past 500bhp but they are heavy old beasts so it will good to have a nice nimble car

i have a 996 at mo and i miss the turbo so have found a nice 944 turbo low mileage car that is spotless
standard engine with 62k on the clock

i have just got most of the bits i need from the guy on the pcgb forum so thanks you for the recommendation
i now have
elec boost controller
piggy back ecu etc
bb turbo
induction kit
bov
wastegate
3" exhaust and cat bypass
ic hardpipes
lindsey racing fuel rail
and some other shiny bits

can any one recommend someone to fit these bits and map the car for me that knows the cars and does charge Porsche tax

many thanks

Well done. What's the turbo?

You got piggy back ecu and maf or do you still need air intake.

Where you based. Give tom barks a try at http://www.augmentautomotive.co.uk/projects

May be worth getting his ecu and map and sell on the piggy back

Great,

Jmg and promax see how long they will take as these cars tend to live at the tuners forever

hi

yes phoned jmg and the response i got was less than welcoming so they will not be get any of my money. as if you already have you own bits they are not interested they just clearly want to sell you there bits

may give promax a call if not there is a place called austec racing may give them a shout

many thanks

Jon from JMG has given me plenty of invaluable advice and I think I've only bought from him once. He's a 944 nut and I doubt anyone knows more about 944's and tuning them in the UK. I doubt he'd sell you something that you didn't need.

yes i have no doubt they know there stuff but who ever was on the end of the phone was not helpful and pretty much didn't want to know as soon as i said i had collected my own bits i have tuned a few different cars with garages and never had a response like because you have your own bits

i found them pretty rude to be honest and i only phone up for a chat to see prices and what there recommendations where and im happy to take peoples advice but there was none of that its was just we dont like fitting other peoples parts and that was the end of the conversation

its a shame really there not far from me

Try tom barks he Gloucestershire based but it be worth it. There's a lot off why your in there jobs and someone who knows just how much life is left could save replacing parts for the sake off it or missing something easy 5mins like as seals which can be a huge job on there own
