Hello All! I'm new on here so thought I'd say hi! Currently own a Corrado VR6 and I'm in the market for a nice 944 Turbo or 968 Sport. I've been doing my research so been lurking on a forum a while now. I'll probably have a few questions in due course when I start viewing cars. Rich |

Welcome Rich! I'm a relatively new joiner also (May '14) but I've found everyone to be a friendly and very helpful bunch on here ![]() Nice step from the VW to the Porsche - good to keep the engine at the front end as well ![]() Good luck in your search! |

Hi and welcome! I used to own a nice 'rado VR6 and they're lovely cars, a noise a 944 or a 968 can only dream of making... The Porsches are by far the more rewarding drivers car, although I found the VR a very nice steer indeed. I too only recently joined the fold ![]() |

Hi and welcome from me - a comparative newbie too! I know where there's a Corrado G60 sitting in a garden, half full of water cos the sunroof leaked, with weeds and grass growing through the wheels - it's not moved in over 2 years, I am sorely tempted! Greg |

Hello and welcome, Got myself a 944 Turbo and a 968 Sport. The engines have quite different characters, the 968 is more relaxed just pottering around and has quick response when accelerating. I can't seem to be able to potter around in the Turbo! It sort of wills you to drive it fast all the time. However I end up kicking myself when I exit a corner in the wrong gear and there's no boost pressure. |

Hi and welcome, I've owned a 944 2.7 for ten years and have enjoyed every drive in the car, very well balanced and great fun. Theres plenty of good advice from people on here, enjoy the search for your front engined Porsche. Toby |

Thanks for the warm welcome guys ![]() I love my VR6, but I've had VW's all my life and need a change from fwd cars. I've always had a thing for the transaxle Porsches and the time is right for me. I'm not afraid of a spanner and these cars just tick all of the right boxes. 944 Turbo's appeals because of the 80's looks and tuning potential, they are a little more raw. Where as the 968 appeals because it's pretty and a great all round package out of the box. Both will suit me one way or another. I've actually seen one car up for sale which appeals: http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/ ... iment=true It looks to have had the money spent in the right places and my only concern is the front ride height but it looks like it'll be a simple raise and a geo, simple enough. What's everyones thoughts? |

Hi, same here. I've come from Vws, just remember Porsche prices are not the same as VW when you do anything! Good luck in your search |

The white T you linked certainly does look like its worth a good poke round and if it's as good as the ad makes out, it should represent good value at that price due to the work carried out on the clutch, sils and engine. Like yourself I'm handy with the spanners (I'm an engineer so I like to play), but compared to all the other cars and especially the VW's I've owned, which are normally very simple, these are far from simple cars to work on and represent a good challenge! Nothing is too difficult, they are just very well engineered as a sports car so maintenance was a secondary consideration during their design IMO so even quite simple tasks can take a long time to carry out. I'm specifically talking about my experience with my Turbo and people make take a different view for the nasp cars, but having poked around a few s2's and 968's during my search they looked almost as complicated and instead of a turbo stuffed up the near side you have an extra cam and the drive chain gubbins to worry about... Will it be a fun weekend car or a daily? If the former do yourself a favour and buy a Turbo as they're very rewarding to drive and are more exciting IMO. Plus if you buy the right one you get the added benefit of an LSD which makes all the difference if you're an 'enthusiastic' driver. I've owned quite a few performance cars in my 12 years of driving, but so far my 944 is proving to be the most impressive and fun car I've owned. Metering out the boost exiting tight corners on track, with just a dab of 'oppo will be sure to put a big grin on yer face! I'm sure there will be others with more experience of both cars on here that may take an alternative view though, but in reality you probably won't be disappointed with either ![]() |

It'll be my only car, but in reality a weekend car. I do so little mileage as I get public transport to and from work and I have about 4 large supermarkets all within walking distance from home/work so I don't rely on the car for anything other than awkward trips or lazyness. In fact if I cover 200 miles a month it's an achievement. It's why these cars tick all the right boxes. I can justify something impractical, thirsty with higher maintenance costs and having the car off the road for a few weeks whilst making repairs isn't an issue. I want something sporty to drive whilst at the same time is able to pop to the shops or spend 6 hours on the motorway visiting family, but then wouldn't look out of place on a track day. I think a 944/968 fits the bill. I'm confident with a spanner and have literally rebuilt everything myself on my VR6 other than the bottom end. I like a challenge! ![]() |
