Hi there,

Washed the car on Friday and the drivers side door bumper strip came loose and was hanging by a thread. I pulled it off as I want to remove all these anyway.

Having just tried to scrape off the remainder of the rubber backing with a plastic scraper I have had some success but it's hard work and some of the rubber is welded on! Any tips on getting these off? Unhappily is looks as though while the paint is ok underneath it looks like some form of clear coat has been put over the strip so shows a gap when the strip is removed.

Looks like eventually these areas would all need a respray

If I go to plan B and put the strip back on is there anywhere I can get them. I've heard they are hard to find.

I am about to put them back on, and after painting them the guy fitted double sided tape so they should just stick on. However I need to know if the door one is screwed or riveted at the end...... anybody?

Now I havnt removed the door mouldings off a 944 yet so I can't tell you if there are any fixings or not but this is how we remove the door mouldings at work.
Firstly run masking tape above and below the door mouldings so u don't scratch the paint,then get a plastic spreader that you use to apply body filler with and prise this under one end of the moulding and use as a blade to cut through the double sided tape, once u have got a few inches in u can then start to peel the moulding back and cutting with the spreader at the same time until you remove the moulding ,some come off easier than others.
To remove the double sided tape from the mouldings and the car we use an aerosol product called d-bond and that is supplied by a company called huttons , cover the area liberally with the d-bond and leave to soak for five to ten minutes and scrape off with your plastic spreader ,you may have to do this a couple of times to remove all the glue and it can be quite messy so have some rags to hand.
Don't do it in the sun as it dry's out the debond and don't try to do to much in one go ,do one panel or moulding at a time. Halfords also sell a product for removing adhesives if u can't get the d -bond.
Then to reapply the mouldings we use 3m double sided foam tape and it comes in various sizes,clean the panel and the moulding with a degreaser, apply the double sided tape to the moulding and the stick it to the door. You only get one chance at this so make sure you get it right first time.

Blimey removing these strips is a nightmare. They've stuck them on with Urethane Adhesive!!!!

The residue is not moving. D-Bond is not working on it. It has worked on the stone chip though combined with a heat gun.

I'm going to have a determined go on the strip residue over the weekend. I think I'm going to have to resort to a razor blade. All of my bumper strips are too deteriorated to keep.

Why did they use urethane adhesive. Madness.
