| Post subject: | Brake fluid leak |
A few weeks ago I noticed the brake lights on the dashboard started flickering. The next morning I topped up the brake fluid which was low and used the car all day covering 60 miles, by the end of the day the lights came back and the level was again low. There has been no loss in braking efficiency. I have not used or looked at the car since. Where is the fault likely to be? |

If I were you I would initially start my search by looking at all of the brake hoses and calipers. If all is dry upon pumping the pedal then it is time to look elsewhere. Naturally this may well be the master cylinder which is leaking into the servo. However, I would also be expecting you to give the pedal a pump on some occasions to bring back the hard pedal. Either way, it dos sound like quite a leak you have! |

The strange thing is there is no drop in pressure in the pedal. |

Look in the reservoir with someone pumping the pedal, if you have a stream of bubbles the master cylinder is knackered. |

nothing on the floor, nothing visible on any of the hoses or joints or pipes round the car the only place left is the master cylinder leaking into the servo. |

The hard brake lines corrode in a similar place to the fuel lines where they bend up over the rear beam |

When I find the time I will remove one wheel at a time and inspect all under the car. If I can't find anything I will replace the master cylinder with the spare I have. Are the brake pipes along the rear suspension the same on cab and coupes? |

I have no idea. I repaired a 3 inch section on my cabby in that area ( borrowed a flaring tool ) |

I have moved the car to discover fresh fluid on the ground in line with the front centre where the engine bay would be. Will continue investigation. |
