Has anyone succesfully removed the black trim from a 944 bumper?

How is it held into the rear bumper? Studs & nuts?

Yeah it's held on with studs and nuts. The studs are moulded into the rubber trim and the nuts will almost definitely be rusted onto the studs and they'll snap or just turn!

I replaced mine when I had my car resprayed, about £40 from Porsche for a Lux. I think S2 & turbo ones are more than double that though.

i have done this on both off my cars, the pictures of filling and painting are on my picasa web albums. i prefer the clean look.
I still have one strip that is in great condition with all the studs and no damage.

I didn't realise the strips were different on the Turbo/S2 - they certainly look the same at first glance!!

I'm collecting a Turbo tomorrow that has had the rear strip.smoothed & painted, but I'd like to put an original one back.

Stu, was yours from an S2/Turbo?

I have removed two of these strips. On both occasions the fixings sheared off thanks to 20 years of rust and grime. Half of the fiximgs did come out mind you. To be far you could probably reinstate the sheared fixings by retapping them etc.

If you need a rear Turbo strip LMK. I may have a spare one lying around ;).

Chas or Stu - if you both have one in good condition, then I guess it would make sense to collect from whoever is closer, as I guess posting an item like this could be asking for it to get bent/damaged.

I'll PM you both :)
