Hi all, does anyone have any ideas on why my s2 wont start, i have a spark, i have fuel in the fuel rail, but it seems that the injectors are not pulsing! i have just put the engine into a shell i had and have changed the loom in the car to match, both engine and loom came from the same crash damaged s2 cabriolet, i have checked the dme relay, air flow meter and ecu, fuel rail, injectors, fuel pressure regulator, ignition module but still nothing, the starter turns over well enough, the only strange things i have noticed are that the fuse test relay isnt working(i have tested the relay itself) and when i put the car loom in there was a brown earth wire with a small hooped connector at each end left!!!! its about 10inches long, it wasnt attached to anything that i can remember and its soo long since i removed it from the cabriolet i cant remember where it came from. On removing the old loom i didnt notice a similar looking wire, i seem to have all the earth wires attached okay 4 under the dash by the fuse box, bulkhead one, 2 from the engine loom to the bellhousing area, either side at the front by the headlights and at the back panel between the lights. Am i missing something? please help, what little hair i still have is on borrowed time!! thanks, Mark. (my first post) |

Hi Mark, good to see you posting on here. I need to drop that bonnet over to Ower tommorow so I will drop of those spare fuel pressure regulators and dampeners on the way to see if they will help. |

If you think the injectors are not pulsing, it could be a bad connection on the ballast resistor pack. The injectors get a signal from the DME (all common) which comes from DME pin 17, this gets fed to pin 1 on each injector. Pin two on each injector then goes to a ballast resistor in the pack, the other side of the resistors is commoned and goes to ground....might be worth a check? ![]() |

Thanks Rhett, I will have a look at this tomorrow and Saturday, is the ballast resistor located on the inner wing with a black round connector going into it? Thanks, Mark. |

If it were me I would see if it starts with an injector disconnected. It would be worth seeing what the spare wires do. |

Hi chas, I have tried disconnecting an injected but it still didn't start!! I swapped the fuel rail complete with injectors from another running s2 but still nothing also, I have a feeling it's something simple, either I have forgotten to replace something correctly or it's an earthing problem. I'm going to look for the ballast resistor tomorrow and check everything is ok here. |
