Post subject:  Help with Relay Board

Hi guys I have a few questions (actually quite a lot):

1. I have double checked the relay part no.s, does the relay board look good? (see below) Was not sure whether position 1 and 3 are correct. The relay on position 1 is an AC relay and the one on 3 is just a general relay. But after searching the internet there seems to be a specific relay for the blower fan? I take it the AC relay also controls the radiator fans?

2. There was a relay on position 7 and after searching this seems to be for the headlight flasher so I am now quite confused.

3. There was a general relay (labelled 24 on the top) at position 8, however this is for the additional headlights isn't it? The relay above does not fit this slot though. After searching there seems two be two versions of the flasher, one that has a pin 30 (as in question 2) and one without.

4. Position 5 is supposed to be empty however in my car there are wires leading to it? What could this be for?

This is for a UK car by the way. Thanks a lot!

Ok so I get the gist of what your saying, but is something not working on your car? If we know what were are aiming for I might be able to work out why your relays are as they are

Cooling fan on the radiator doesn't work so I overheat when sitting in traffic. I looked at the wiring diagrams and the A/C relay is supposed to be behind the glovebox but there isn't one (RHD) in my car. So looked at the wires behind the relay board today and judging from the wiring colours in position 1 does match to the schematic (see below) for the "COOLING FAN RELAY". However looking at position 3, which I think should be for the "FRESH AIR INTERLOCK RELAY" it is not there, it is in position 4 instead. The wiring in position 3 matches the "AIR CONDITIONER RELAY" in the schematic. So I am now very confused given all the manuals point otherwise. I can't even locate the "FRESH AIR BLOWER INTERLOCK RELAY" after scouring underneath the dash today.

This means I will need another relay for the radiator fan I believe is part no: 944.615.113.00 and reshuffle all the relays as it currently is.

If this doesn't work maybe I will have to take the whole dash off and trace every single wiring. I'd rather pay someone to do that for me lol.

Ok, so you may have done and know a lot of this already but. What car is it? 944? Early or late? next have you tested the temp sender, have you tested that power is at the plug of the fan? Have you put 12v into the fan? Bring us up to speed with what youve done. Have you checked all the basics or just assumed its a relay?

yep, I've covered it using the clark's garage guide (pre-1985 car). I will do it again this weekend just to be thorough, but then again useless if the wires are going to the wrong relay slots. I guess I will have to wait until I receive the other relay since the wiring suggests everything is intertwined.

Ok so youve tested it all, does the fan spin with 12v? I take it you arent seeing and voltage to the fan and the temp sender is working properly.

I will get my owner manual with the correct relay locations and ill take a look at my relay board and compare it to yours this evening

First question, has your fan stopped working? Or has it ever worked? AC isn't position 1, AC is postilion 3. I wouldn't concern yourself with position 7.

Heres my relay board but to muddy the water everything works perfectly (non ac car) and I dont have a relay in position 1.

Have you checked the fuse? position 3 on the second fuse board

Right. I replaced the ignition switch and all works fine now so that was why nothing was working at all. For some reason I traced the wiring behind the relays and position 1 was for cooling fan, 3 was for a/c, and 4 was for the fresh air interlock.

Anyway I am happy as all the lights work now, fog, high beam, main beam. When the A/C started blowing and hearing the first radiator fan turn on was music to my ears! Thanks for the helps guys.

Also one more question, the relay for my power window keeps on firing on and off. The constant clicking is annoying me a bit. I have removed the switches thinking that they might be the cause but it still keeps of clicking. Any ideas? Could it be the ground or a short somewhere?

Oh you didn't say you had all those other problems. Glad it's fixed! With the windows try the door contact switches, interior lights work?

Post subject:  Re: Help with Relay Board

As James has suggested, its a classic symptom caused by faulty interior light switches in the leading edge of the door shut.

Post subject:  Re: Help with Relay Board

Yeah, I looked at the wiring diagram 85b on the relay actually connects to the door switches. So I cleaned up the contacts and the screw tightened. Now the interior light works when it's open and the nasty clicking is gone. Who would have known?

But this is not the end yet given how my passenger side window doesn't work anymore. Please don't let it be the motor!

Thanks a lot for the help guys!
