Rather than crawling around under the car, spent saturday doing a couple of those nice jobs that bring the car together. Fitted rear quarter windows, fitted hatch and put in the front glass for those manual window winders which all work really well.Fitted front section of carpet. Also fitted these fiberglass 968 style mirrors. They dont fold, but have a manual adjustment (hand out the window, like the old days ) and weigh next to nothing compared to the flags. I wasnt happy with the trim they supplied so picked up some 968 gaskets which were a perfect fit. Also remade aluminium plate to fit the space where radio and cubby go so I can fit the brake bias valve there, which meant had to take out the gauges again.Heres a couple of photos of the mirrors, excuse the quality.
Does anyone know what has happened to the photos from the start of this thread ?

While we have been working on the car i have also got all the engine parts back ready for the 16v turbo engine build. Block has been cleaned up since the liners were put in and fitted to stand in the back of the garage, got back refurbed head and polished crank. Turbo is K27/8 which has been rebuilt, quite a difference size in housing compared to the k26/8 that is on the car at the moment.
Had cam cover and a spare stove enamelled, one red the other was aiming for that baby blue porsche used but did not come out quite as I was expecting ! Just need to get the last bits finished on the car as is, before spending some time putting this lot together. Now where's that haynes manual again !!

Well, sort of went back but in a good way today. After all the work done to the engine it still looked a bit disapointing and sad (first photo, while stripping it), so even though I said i would not do anything just for cosmetic reasons because it is a track focused car , I had a spare cam cover and wheel housing powder coated. I justified this by fitting a 2.7 camshaft i had which has a few more degrees exhaust lift, so its a performance mod really! Also utalised the lifting point to secure the adjustable fuel pressure regulator. Where I have removed the power steering the resevoir position left the perfect place for the catch can. So bar filling and bleeding with hydraulic fluids, thats it under the bonnet.
Then cut into the brake lines and fed new lines through to the centre console ready to fit brake bias as doing away with the ABS.
In a blatent copy of "Turbotims" inspirational build I have cut the runners on an S2 manifold and have ordered a toyota intake manifold to get this ready for the 16 v engine.
Also a quick shot of these mono block castor mounts. No idea how they will work out but the quality seems reasonable and cost the same as a pair of 968 mounts.

Spent the weekend fitting the brake bias into the console and connecting up the lines. All bled with no leaks after a few issues with air getting into the system through the bleed nipples thread while opening them to bleed. Also fitted new clutch hose complete from slave to master in braided hose made up by Pirtek. Put the rear bumper back on minus the rubbing strip which i think really tidy up the rear of the 944.
I got the supra manifold which I have started to cut up and had a back plate water cut to fit in 8mm aluminium. The quality of the plenum chamber is ok but the quality of the rest is complete rubbish with loads of casting sand still left inside and no attempt at porting. While attempting to copy "turbotims" design I am going to fit radius trumpets to mine as it cant do any harm. As you can see from the photos there is quite a section to remove to get it to fit. Also need to make up a reducer plate to fit the standered throttle body as will be using the standered intercooler pipes so no need for larger.

Hi David, wastegate is a 38mm turbosmart dual port at present but will change it over to a 44mm when we swap engines. Ecu is one of Toms AugTronic units, very nice bit of kitand easy to use. This should also run the 16v engine as we are using the 8 valve bellhousing and sensors.
As for power, that is all relative. I would like 1000 hp but my driving capabilities are probably nearer 20 hp !! I would hope for about 320 to 350 hp for the 8 valve and maybe 400 for the 16 valve. Hope to have it on a rolling road in about 3 weeks time to set it up so will find out soon enough.
Sorry to hear about your engine and hope its not as bad as you are expecting. The sleeved block is the engine you sold me .

Hi Simon
just got our bad news from engine shop,,our car was runing 375 Bhp (just over half the advertised 600 bhp)
think most of the damage was befor we got it, so we will be looking at your set up with liners,,what valves r u runing in the 16v head?
heat seems to be the problem, what intercooler you going to go with, and you may need to vent the hood

Just a quick photo of this smaller 944 washer bottle I have fitted. Half the size of the original S2 one so easily removed unlike the original and i have done away with the washer jets so only need the one pump. Looks much neater than a bag tank. Also swapped over the fuel rail for another I had plated as i felt it was letting it down.

Finally after 2 years I drove her down the road ! Noisy, uncomfortable but bloody quick, just what i was aiming for. Started the day connecting up the rev counter (S2 loom and 944 turbo engine loom) and swpping over the oil cooler pipes as the ones I had made up from Pirtek kinked due to the thinner side wall. Throw on the rest of the panels, topped up oil and added antifreeze to coolant before rebleeding.
Booking in for an mot next week before setting up the suspension. While it is in there i am going to get them to sort out the panel gaps as I dont have the patients.
While she's away I am aiming to get started on the 16v next weekend.

Hi Mark, had the bonnet blasted and primed and dropped it over last week. Amazing work being done there with a DBR style car and a 1950's maserrati racing car being handcrafted from scratch in aluminium. The quote was appropiate with the quality of work on show !
Still gave the go ahead and hope to have it back in a couple of weeks. Did you get the S2 started yet ?

Yes, with a little advice from a member got it running last week, need to sort the brakes out now, need the domed bolts taken off the calipers to deal with the plate lift and get some adjustable front struts to get the front of the car to a similar ride height of the re indexed rear.

Mark.
