I need to replace the hatch latch seals on my 944 - now I have heard of people using the 968 ones. Are these an improved design over the 944 ones, and do they fit without modification? If the 968 seals are used, do they need to be used with a 968 hatch pin seal as well? Or am I better off just buying a pair of 944 ones? once I sort these my 944 will be close to being water tight!! I think the only other minor leak (that I know about) will be the hatch seal. A nice dry 944 just in time for the summer!! |

I've just replaced my hatch seal, latch seals, pins (already had 944 latches) on the 924 with late 944 items from Porsche. Back end is now as water tight as a ducks bum!! Not a drop of overnight condensation building up on the inside of the hatch glass since. Absolutely no rattles either. Didn't consider 968 items to be honest and whether they would be an improvement over late 944 |

Would you mind sharing how much you paid for your latch seals and where from? My pins generally look OK, I assume once they are worn you start to get tailgate rattles or problems with the pins engaging? I have had trouble with one of the latches sticking open occasionally, but I will strip these down and clean/regrease. |

My track oriented 944 has had a lot of work done and it principally in good condition. The rear hatch seals look in good order and I assume them to be quite new. I've never actually driven another 944 so have no direct comparison but mine squeaks and rattles like a good'un but I believe it's water tight. Is there anything obvious I should be looking at with respect to the hatch to get a good and squeak-free drive? Since the car is for track not road pleasure I'm less irritated by this but I still like to try and make a car as good as possible whatever the situation. Thoughts welcome, Mick |

If it's rattling or squeaking it will likely be the adjustment of the hatch pins or latches. The seals just stop water getting into the rear panel (the water should just run down the drain tubes at the bottom of the latches). There are some write ups around on how to adjust the pins, possibly Clarks garage. |

Thanks for the guidance. I'll have a look now I know what to target. Cheers Mick |

My local OPC supplied the parts, as always - hatch seal was £60ish it is far better quality and plumper than the seal that came off, the pins were £22 and were far easier to adjust than the previously worn ones. I also bought these to limit the rattles http://only944.com/partscatalog/only/hatchpinseats/ I now have no leaks, no rattles, hatch closes and locks with minimal effort and pops open on the turn of the key. |

Thanks for that. Hatch pin seats ordered as per link. Reading their advice on the website, they list glass and frame becoming detached as another source of rattles and creaks. Is it blindingly obvious when this has occurred or is there a recognised check? Cheers Mick |

If you look closely at the edge of the glass you would be able to see where the glass has separated from the sealant - that or you would get water ingress. |

The car is stored in a barn and only driven on track days and dry days so I have no real idea whether it leaks. It is the rattles and squeaks I've noticed so I'll have a good look at the seal around glass and see if this looks like a source of said noises. Thanks Mick |
