Hi all.
I've just picked up a set of early 80's Revolution split rims off a 944 racer.
They are a bit like Fuchs being 5 spoke with similar dishes and they are 3pc 20 bolt split rims.
My dilemma is do I paint the outer dish white or get them mirror polished? (the centres are red and the car is white)
Any ideas?

Got to be a mirror polish to show off the rims :)

gharr...where did you get them from? been scanning the bay for weeks now :(

...more info and pics pics pics please!

any idea what the offsets/widths are? seems to be approaching the impossible getting fuchs type wheels to fit the ABS offset cars!

btw, it's really easy to polish the dishes yourself, infact, a full home re-furb isn't hard at all and do-able in a weekend.

i split and re-built a set of BBS RS last year. you can sand curb damage etc out of the rim with wet and dry then re-polish with autosol (1/2hr a corner):

i had the centre's on those powdercoated for £120, could look at getting yours done white?

the time consuming bit is tourqing up each bolt when you put 'em back together.

cheers,

rick.

you torque those bolts? the rarri rims i had on my other gto was 3pc and i didnt torque them.

polish both rims paint the center then go to frost and get a can of clear coat you can spray on polished/bare metal ;)

Split rims look best with polished rims I think, but I wouldn't bother polishing the insides or clear coat.

I had a set of BBS on a previous car and did just that, but after about 6-8 months the clear coat started to peel off. I striped them back and sprayed the inside rim silver and polished the outer rim again. I left them bare and just applied Rimwax to them whenever I washed the car. They didn't corrode again and looked brilliant.

Really liking the gold bolts on the wheel above.

Ok.
Sounds like I need to polish the rims then!
The centres are going to be red to match the decals and I have stainless bolts for them.
Red centre caps too.
Centres will be clear coated and baked and then the whole wheel will be coated with protective rim wax and then a dusting of my secret formula for polished rims.
Need to protect them as much as possible as this is going to be a daily runner.

Hi Rick.
They look really nice mate!

Got mine off the bay about a month back.
There wasn't even a pic on the ad, it just said porsche rims.

Fronts are 7" with ET 23 and rears are 8" with ET15.
Thought they were Compomotives to start off but then found the Revolution stamp under a s**t load of old paint and crap.

Here's a couple of them when I bought them:

They are stripped at the mo awaiting polishing and painting.
I've got some Fuchs centre caps and the correct straight shank wheel bolts too.
They look really cack in these pics, but I reckon they'll be cool when they're done.
