Just changed the oil in my S2 today. Wow the oil filter is hard to get at. Had to use a hammer and screw driver to gently tap it loose in the end. Plus the only way to get it out seemed to be under the distributor cap over the top of the belts so I've got nice oily belts now. Anyway, how tight does the new one need to go back on? I can only really get my fingers in at it and would describe it as finger tight. Also can someone confirm how much oil should go back in? I think it should be 6.5 litres.

put the headlights on to gain more room , you can buy special filter removal tools which hold the filter around the top. smear Fresh oil on the seal and as tight as you can by hand.put 6l in and then run and see where oil level is and top up as needed.

Another crucial point is once you've fitted the new filter and filled the engine, disconnect the fuel injectors (or remove the DME relay) and crank the engine over until the oil pressure warning lamp goes out. Otherwise you're running the engine dry for the first few seconds upon start up...

This is very important on a 944 as you can't pre-fill the new filter before fitting it.

I use a filter removal tool which fits over the cants on the end of the filter. This makes it pretty easy to undo.

Also, a tip from my idie is to knock a hole in the top of the filter to let air in when you drain the oil. This means that there is less oil in the filter when you come to take it off. You still finish up with some running out, but not as much.

Oilly belts? that's not very good. Oil will perish belts at a huge speed. I hope is the PAS belt and not the timing/balance belts. Which ever belt it is I would change it ASAP to save a large failure
