Post subject:  944T Koni Front Struts Adjustment Question

Hi all,

I took an afternoon off work today to fit a few bits and to carry out an inspection on my new toy! I confirmed that she is a beaut and is ridiculously clean underneath and I can believe it's coming up 28 years old...

My car has the 474 sport suspension option, but going through the paperwork all four corners have been replaced at some point (the rears have been 'downgraded' to Boge turbos). The car has sport springs and Koni struts on the front which are clearly marked 'adjustable' however the top of the struts do not have adjusters. Now I've had Koni's on a number of cars and I know some of them are adjustable off the car by compressing them and I wondered if these are the same?.. But I was under the impression that the sport dampers were top adjustable at the front.

Looking at the top of the struts it doesn't look like the adjusters have snapped off and certainly the struts haven't been modified in any way (the yellow strut body caps are still intact).

Here's a couple pictures of the drivers side including the part no 951 343 032 02

Your thoughts on identifying whether these are adjustable or not would be appreciated!

Also just a point of interest for some on the subject of LSD's: my car does not have the 220 LSD option however a previous owner had a Porsche heritage check and certificate, which states the car had the LSD option ticked. The car certainly has one (it also has the oil cooler) which is very noticeable on the road and I double checked today when changing the 'box oil and the clutch pack is clearly visible through the fill hole. IMO this proves that on the turbo at least the absence of a 220 code is not conclusive proof that a car does not have an LSD!

Should be adjustable from the top inside engine bay. Covered with a cap, never tried to adjust mine. But iv seen pics. Looks like you put a nob on and twist

Rich, 86 Turbos rock fella ! you can stick Fuch on there BTW :D
Can you get a picture of the top of the strut mount from inside the engine bay Koni M030 have adjustable valves for damping under a fitted plastic cover.
In your case i suspect the "adjustable" will require struts off and adjustment off the car, M030 rears are adjusted by removal from the car compressing and twisting, the fronts are coilover adjustable via locking rings (C Spanners) on the strut body.

Thanks for the replies chaps; I've solved it now via some googling and some results from across the pond...

It seems that the M030's are top adjustable via the little tabs and knob, where the earlier M474's are adjustable off the car by stripping the springs off, fully compressing them and turning. I fitted a Koni kit to my old CRX mk2 and they were adjustable in this way too, just like the rears for the 944.

Speaking of which a set of rear Koni's are now on the shopping list!

Thanks for the tip on the Fuch's! I guess the early offset cars do have their perks somewhere, as finding brake discs is a little more tricky it seems... (Berlyn do them though as I've found). But for the time being I'll be sticking with the lovely deep teledials :)
