Status: onlineWhilst changing my engine mounts noticed the pipe going to the turbo looked a bit iffy so undone it and was not pleased with what I found.
Could have been worse I suppose could have blown up whilst driving.

I think I'd be pulling the intercooler in the hope that whatever did that that and pieces of the compressor wheel were there rather than in the cylinders.

Looks a bit like part of an airbox has cracked free and done some damage.

Whatever has caused it, at least it does not look like it was at full chat at the time, as 150,000 plus rpm that you have on boost usually causes more damage to all the blades.

If you get stuck for a turbo, let me know.

That is not a pleasant looking turbo!

Was it whining more than you thought it should or did it all sound fine?

Yes you are quite correct, it's just rather frustrating at times!

you are not wrong
I didn't at first, but looking back at it now it was whining a fair bit when I purchased the car but I did have a large hole in the firewall that was missing a bung so just assumed I was hearing more than I should because of it..
its off the road at the moment anyway which is how I came to spot it, just a a tad frustrating as I have only done app 500 miles in the car.
still be worth it in the end.
