Post subject:  Headlining replacement

A previous problem reared it's ugly head after spending the weekend washing my 944, a wet rear carpet!!

I had spent some time when I first got the car, spraying a hose around trying to find the leak, only place I could see it coming in was between hatch seal on opposite side, I suspect it is then running under the headlining, and finding it's way down to the rear floor. I need to fully strip out the rear to be sure, but that was the only place I could see it coming in after hosing all around the car.

Anyway, part of the problem seems to be the headlining. Where the vinyls on these cars wrap around the body, then the seals trap the vinyl as they are fitted over the top, my headlining is shrinking, and where it is leaking the vinyl is not trapped under the hatch seal. So even if the seal is making good contact against the hatch (which I beleive it is), the uneven gap behind it where the vinyl has shrunk allows water be drawn in behind it.

So, when I replace the hatch seal, I want to do the headlining at the same time.

Has anyone else done this? What are the options, can you buy replacements? Or is it best to track down a good used one, or just try trimming it from scratch with fresh vinyl? If so, any tips on the type of vinyl and adhesive? I gather you can buy vinyl that is stretchy, to help keep it tight against the contours of the roof panel.

Any advice appreciated! It's a job I will save for better weather, but it's on my mind after the weekend so thought I'd bring it up!

Hi new headlings are available cut to the right shape and size from Elliot Newman at Pokaparts.
Tel: 07514944964. There is also a photo guide to do it on his web site: porkaparts.com
Elliot is a great guy to deal with and knows the 944/924 inside out and has loads of good seconhand parts in stock.
Regards Colin

Southbound do one all perfectly aligned with every hole marked and only £40 if I remember correctly, easy to fit but I would ask them to send a quantity of the glue they use it is really easy to work with

Excellent! Thanks for the advice guys :) I must admit, after a quick Google some time ago I only came across the odd writeup where people were trimming non-sunroof cars - I didn't actually realise you could buy them marked/pre-cut.

This will be the start of another shopping list!!
