Hi All,

Welcome to 2014, Happy New Year

I have a single key for my 944 and it works very well, so I went to Timpson to make me a copy. After three keys being made we have given up and I have my £10 back. The New Timpson key works in the door and boot but not in the Ignition.

We tried three new keys but none would work in the Ignition.

Can anyone help me as I only have a copy of a key and not the original, so the key cutter said probably my lock barrel needs replacing.

Any advice as to another key cutter or even buying an original from OPC.

I live near Brighton, West Sussex

cheers

Neil

Squirt some brake cleaner in the lock and try again
If its dirty it might just work, cheap if it does

It's a *very* old car, perhaps try a blacksmith? How is the clearance for your stovepipe hat?

If there is a chance that the locks have never been changed, you can get Porsche to cut you a new key to the original code and post it to you.

Or, what I have done in the past, is buy a new ignition barrel (without steering lock) from Porsche, which comes with two key blades, and then have a locksmith with a VW wafer set, rekey your other locks in the car to match your new pair of keys and ignition lock.

If you get stuck, I have a complete VW wafer refill set and can rekey your locks or a complete set of spare locks and door handles I might have.

But getting a new barrel and a pair of keys is the way forward with anyone in this situation.
