I know there were differences in available materials/colours, etc - but is there a difference between the seatbelt mounts between old & later 944 seats? I'm sure I have read it somewhere, but can't remember where!! I'm sure I have seen some seats without the belt buckles. If so, is the difference in the seat or the bases? Are the bases the same regardless of whether they have electrics or not (i.e. the motors can be swapped between bases)? |

The seats are completely different, but theyre similar in style - compared side by side youll see that everything is slightly different. Series one seats are fixed to the car using four bolts and the cars seat belt buckle is mounted on the transmission tunnel. Series two seats add an extra two bolts at the back of the runners and the seat belt buckle is mounted on the runner. |

I will add, that in order to fit early manual sports seas to a series twocar, youll need manual passenger seat runners and the same 'rassenger seat' manual runners from an early left hand drive series two, too. These will fit the floor, have sufficient fixings and the seat belt mountings. You will need to drill them to suit the four new mounting moles, which are closer together on early seats. From memory (I did this to my 968CS in the nineties) you can use the existing rear holes and re-drill the fronts. It may need to be the other way around as a portion of runner may stick out. I cant remember which way I did it now, but thats the gyst of it. On the plus side, the manual offside mount will be an awful lot easier to find now that you have t'internet. |

Yes. I fitted early leather sports seats into my 968CS (essentially a series two 944), but it was a long time ago and I couldnt remember exactly what we did, so I compared a set of series one runners with a series two chair that I had to hand. Unfortunately I cant remember which end I cut, but I do remember using one original runner to seat mounting hole, which left the new hole to be drilled sufficiently far away from the existing unusable hole. The reason that you have to mess about with a poverty spec LHD offside seat, is that the powered seat bases are different, and so are their runners as a result. |
