I am in the lucky position that I have a friend who is an A/C engineer and in trade for me welding on his Land-rover 101 he is going to recommission my A/C as part of my 944 restoration/revamp. He said that the condenser is likely to fail a pressure test and I should look out for a replacement in advance. Now I know the original part for the early car is no longer available but was wondering if I could fit a later model in its place or if anywhere supplied a replacement part for mine. Hope somebody can help :D
How many owners of early cars actually have a working A/C system still?

The pump bearings failed on my 1985 944, made a horrible grinding noise so I removed the pump and maybe one day I'll get a new pump and get the AC up and running again.

The compressors are available but it would be pricey to get it pressure tested and then re-gassed, mine is still set up for R12 but you can use a drop in replacement (Not R409A). What my mate did say and it was quite alarming is that some Classic car owners are still running R12 and will pay big bucks for it just for the sake of originality  he will not put it in and doesn't have any, when he suggests an alternative they just refuse and say they will keep trying until they find someone with a stock of it left over and who are prepared to use it. Staggering really as at the most the system might need an oil change, oh well
