As above, would be interested to see some pics of a non S2/Turbo on the 16" Teledials - so far when searching all I have seen are Turbo's.

Thanks :)

They are quite a scarce wheel IMO. In 16" late offset form I have only ever seen one set, and that was on Chris' (Porker's) car on here (were they an option I wonder? 944 Man may know). Even in the earlier offset I have only come across 3 sets of wheels (one a square dash Cocacola was breaking many years ago. It seems even the Turbo owners used to ditch them, until recently (I'd be willing to bet there are more 944s gracing 16" Cup 1s).

Plenty of photos knocking around with late offset 15" Teledials though ;).

EDIT: It seems you can find the shots though on the 'net and on this forum The owner was saying that the fronts stuck out quite a bit though:

However, with a slight drop, it seems that 16" Teledials can work very well in whichever offset is relevant for the car:

Thanks Chas. I had seen the first ones, they are early offset on a late offset car though.

I am a fan of the Tele's, always loved them on Alfa's as well. As you say, with a slight drop, they look great imo.

But then, so do D90's and they are easy to get hold of!!

I have 16" early offset Teledials on mine:

It came with 15's but I managed to find a set of 16's a couple years ago. Love 'em

They look great deLUX.

The early offset ones do look better for the dish, but it's too much poke for a late offset car, no doubt it ruins the handling as well.

I think I have been reading your blog today - the hoff? Great stuff if so :)

I have the PU from the blue S2 in my garage, complete with SUM1T registration plate! The 52.3mm offset wheels are probably rarer than the 1986 pattern wheel because they were only used for one year and the 928 Gullideckels which were standard for 1988 were an option in 1987.

If you Google the 1987 944 Celebration then thatll show an ABS offset car with ABS offset wheels, as they were fitted to that model too.

PU is short for polyurethane btw and all 944s have a PU panel at the front.

Thanks Simon - I'm quite aware of what PU is short for! I was thinking thst the oruginal 944 front end was fibreglass, but maybe not.

I'm sure you knew what I meant though ;)

The 937/924CGT was all PU and the 944 look-a-like version was PU (light frames with a 937 part# and under bumper apron) and a heavy compressed fibre type of GRP (bumper).

Im on the look out for the same wheels, although my 1988 Turbo came originally on forged Fuchs Gullideckels. They used to be available in singles for sensible money, but as with every other type, the 'dubbers' have forced the price op to 3x what it was before...

Simon, are you saying that the Fuchs Gullideckels are a later offset wheel? This would explain why the VW fraternity pay such a premium for them (and you may have just ruined me in terms of what is possibly for 944s in wheel choice...).

Simon - these forged ones? Or are 928 ones different (higher offset maybe):

So I put a half hearted bid (£83) on these earlier as the seller had said he would sell the mismatched fronts for half what the rears sold for. Trouble is, even though I assumed they were a pair of early & late offset fronts, the seller couldn't id them. And even then, trying to source a single late offset front may have been difficult - so I let them go (£85).

http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.vi ... ID=EBAY-GB

But then browsing tonight, what do I see.....

http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.vi ... 1059576297

A late offset front wheel!!

Oh well, it's probably for the best as I want to spend some monet on the suspension before I worry about more wheels!!

Gullydeckels are 52mm & 65mm offset (6",7" & 8"). Is the link to 1987 944 Turbo wheels with a pair of mismatched fronts? I was looking at those but decided not to bother because the seller appeared to be a wally.

If one of the fronts was 'wrong' but not obviously a 1986 Turbo wheel, then Id guess that it was a seventies 928 ATS telephone dial. 928s have always used a 65mm offset wheel and an ET65 7"x16" wheel might have been the ugly duckling there.

I'm glad you mentioned that, I didn't realise that the 928's had the 16" tele's as well.

He seemed to think the fronts had no markings on, which seemed odd to me, so possible that neither of tje fronts would have been any good after all.
