 Post subject: 944 Turbo Sump Plug

Last time I change my engine oil, I could have sworn that my magnetic sump plug didn't have a washer on it.

Should it have a washer? All the similar era VWs I've tinkered with certainly did have a brass washer...

I'm about to change it again so now is a good time to fit one if needed.

The plug looks like this:

Yes it should & they frequently weep if it isn't there or is old. New uns are pennies from an OPC.

I knew something wasn't right. My VR6 Corrado had a captive aluminium washer but I was surprised to see it totally missing on the '44.

Just for convenience (so I can do the job tonight) I'm hoping the 944 uses the same one as a Mk2 Golf, as a I have a nice one of those kicking about already.

I see the part code is 900 123 049 30

From memory they are the same as Fiat Punto I bought a bag of 10 for about 25p

We use a new aluminum one on each oil change, Porsche swapped to aluminium washers some time ago, so if you have a copper one, its probably quite old, or some Porsche dealer has a massive stockpile they are still selling! lol

Update for all of the keen washer watchers out there:

Being aluminium, I didn't notice that there actually *was* a washer in place but I had unwittingly reused the old one which was squished on to the plug. It was leaky... That's what happens when you change your oil in the dark :lol:

Nottingham Porsche kindly gave me a fresh one for gratis - I guess they couldn't be bothered to process a few pence of petty cash...

Win! 8)

PS: The VW brass one I had kicking about was too small
