Power steering cooler

Just a small question really, I've had a small leak from the bottom of the reservoir since I bought the car almost a year ago and it has just started leaving its mark on the drive so given the good weather today I decided to tackle it and all went well, but after a short test drive I parked back on the drive to see fluid dropping from the cooler section I didn't notice this before but I presume I just never noticed the two :roll:

... So my question is, is it wise to bypass the cooler or is it necessary?

If it wasn't nessasary Im sure it wouldn't be there

On mine the cooler was bypassed & I never had a problem, it is for very high temps & high load. So if you don't do track days & don't live in California I'd bypass it. Some guys on very hot track days in the UK have had steering fluid boil but it is very rare.

Cheers for that its what I suspected to be honest, I just begrudge paying nigh on £150 for some piping and when 20 year old ones on ebay are listed for £40 just seems crazy! Right time to take some measurements and head to the motor factors

i removed the pipeing to fit air ducts to the brakes so i have used a small motorcycle cooler with flexible pipe.

just found in the shed the OE cooler and all the pipe work in very good condition, if anybody needs these parts?

It is all bypassed now but it is a trial to see how it all goes but if you do have one for sale how much would you want, PM me if you don't want to say openly.

Thought I'd bump this post rather than start a new one. Are there any more opinions on bypassing the PAS oil cooler? I won't be tracking the car so unlikely to need it I think. What type of pipe work would you recommend?

Mine was just some hp rubber hose, jubilee clipped both ends.

Its one of those things.. On the one hand, for road use, its probably just along for the ride.. But we tend to avoid doing it like the plague in the workshop or even offering it, because if a future owner was to see we had done it they might think we were a bodge shop... especially if they found out following having their powersteering fluid boil up all over the engine bay and hot exhaust on a track day.
