Post subject:  944 S2 gear change lever query?

Hi, could anyone please advise/confirm the size of the snap ring which holds the gearbox connecting rod to the gear lever - is it a 6mm E type clip to DIN6799?
In addition, could anyone advise what to substitute for the "spring washer" behind this snap ring - Porsche part no longer available?
Many thanks in advance.

Standard 6mm clip & washer from your local hardware. Have you considered a quick shift replacement kits for both front and back linkages? Did mine - works great!

Please tell me that the linkage in your pic can be changed with the gearbox in situ?

Hi Chas - yes the rear link can be done in situ. It just needs the LHR wheel removed - it's about an 45min job. Image

I've been considering a short shift myself. When I swap between the 944 and my S2000 the difference in throw is ridiculous!!! It makes it feel like one of them is broken!!

Does your kit only alter the forward/back throw?

Are there any downsides to these kits?

Hi Hallsy - This kit allows reduction in shifting and also lateral movement if you choose it (top pin location in pic) of about 30%. You can also get a mod kit for the gear shift itself to also counter the porridge effect. I got this one from 'only944' in the US and is relatively priced. I haven't found any problems with it and can be fitted easily with just a few basic tools as a useful DIY project...

Wow. Thanks for posting those pictures and details of the supplier. I literally just took all measurements this morning to make my own short shifter ( I have a small CNC mill) But when I see they are only charging $ 85 for the kit, it's not worth my while spending the time on making it. :D

No problem - the manufacture of this item is extremely professional. Re-assemble with generous Copperslip and Loctite on the threads. (You may need to use a gentle drift on the selector peg). Oh yes - and a torch - it's all a bit dark back there!
