No, on most models they were a costed option. You could have a standard lux with manually adjustable seats, then you could have an electrically adjustable drivers seat, then both driver and passenger electrically adjustable. Then...you could have heaters in the seats as well! Some trim levels did however have electric seats as standard. However, most later models should have the wiring fitted under the carpets ready to plug electric seats in, not sure about the early ones though. |

Series two car from the 1986 model year to the 1987 model year had electric height adjustment on the drivers side as standard. It was an option on the passengers side, even on Turbos. From 1988 onwards the height adjustment was standard on both sides. Options beyond this were electrically adjusted fore and aft movement and seat back adjustment. Series one 944s didnt have any electrical options, but their seats (which are slightly different) weigh a good deal less. |

I have to add that this applies to standard seats. I cant remember off the top of my head whether sports seats had electric height adjustment as an option at first. The only electric feature on 944 sports seats was their height adjustment though, which is a relatively useless feature on any series two car if youre of average height or more. The height adjustment came about because they lowered the squab level when the series two was introduced and raised the steering wheel, in order to give more legroom. As a result smaller people couldnt see properly and the left feature was introduced to get around the new shortcoming. Simon |

Not really. A long time ago, before t'internet, I used to sell series two seats and the greater majority went into series one cars. The runners are different and use two cap headed bolts on each side at the rear (series one cars used 1x hex botl) and the seat belts were mounted on them. People usually removed the belt buckle and fixed them using four bolts - the holes line up. Theyre easy to wire up too, as you only need a fused positive and an earth. If you dont want to do that then wire them to an external source to trim them and when theyre right for you (I like to have the front up and the back as low as possible), you can remove the hot wire and youre away. |

From 1988 onwards do you mean MY88 which would usually mean 1989? As my August 1988 944 has only electric drivers height adjustment, and have no reason to think that the passenger seat is not original. |

Sorry, Im usually rushing. From memory the nearside motors (just lift front and rear) were introduced for the 1989 model year in September 1988, along with Linen trim. It wont have been built in August as theyre on holiday. If its an S then it might have been in Reading for months as they were slow sellers, due to being so expensive... |
