Finally going to get my replacement head back from the machine shop this weekend so planning the swop to my car, does anyone know where to get a good deal on the cam chain slipper pads especially the lower one, it's not bad but thought I would do both while the car is in bits (944S2)?

Just had a quick look at Design 911 http://www.design911.co.uk/fu/pt856_860 ... -Overhaul/ and Porscheshop ,http://www.porscheshop.co.uk/acatalog/porsche_944_engine_components.html Porscheshop half the price

I have a feeling that Porscheshop only sells the top slipper pad for that price. The 911 kit does contain both, but at what a price for two small pieces of plastic!

Yes Porscheshop only do the top pad design 911 is both but expensive for what they are. I am assuming when they say needs two chains per car they are talking about the 928 as I thought the 944 was a single chain, but could be wrong.

Yep, single chain required on 944. :D

I got mine from OPC in the end, I did get some discount, but their price before discount was still cheaper than Design911 iirc.

My bill for a HG change at Promax from last month shows this:

944 S2 Slipper Pad Kit - Top & bottom pads £78.25 (inc VAT) Stock ID 1235 Item Code 9/0.

I suspect that's a very competitive price, so give Andy a call.

HTH.

As said, ProMax sell both of the pads :).

Saw the Promax kit priced as you said with postage around £83 which although good is ridiculous for two bits of Nylon, I will give my local PC a ring and see what they come up with as they have always been good in the past.

I paid less than the Promax price from OPC, but as I say, I did get a bit of discount.

I'll dig the invoice out to check.

Found similar when I bought my replacement valve springs, Design 911 were charging the same as OPC but then add on postage and VAT and even with the 5% Design 911 discount for PCGB the OPC worked out much cheaper, got one set of springs for around £21 and they were posted next day FOC usually get at least 10% discount from my local OPC.

I'm thinking of tackling this myself on my 944S2 as it's at around 105,000 miles. Top and bottom slippers, plus the chain if I think it needs it. Probably not the tensioner itself. I have a few of questions :

1. Do Promax use genuine Porsche parts or are they copies?
2. Does anyone have a list of all parts and tools needed for the job? I know I need a new valve cover gasket & bolt gaskets.
3. Is there anywhere I can find the torque specs?
4. Is it really as complex as http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforums/9 ... -pads.html or is that just because that's on a 968? For a kick off, from what I can gather, the top and bottom slippers are the same on the 968, but that's not true on the 944.

Cheers,
Bryan

Thanks Nick. Given me most of what I need and a good guide too. The torque spec of 7.5lbft or 10NM seems to apply to all the bolts concerned. I still need part numbers (or better still, a resource where I can find them for myself) for :

Valve cover gasket, valve cover bolt gaskets & the J-Tube washers. Can anyone help?

Cheers,
Bryan
