Hi there, A small part of my rear hatch along the top edge appears to be letting water into the cabin. It looks like the uv guard has dried and pulled off and the sealant inside must have degraded. I want to fix the leak but don't have the time or facilities to undertake the comprehensive whole glass out, clean off, and re-seal approach. I read on one of the US sites of someone injecting Permatex flowable silicon window sealant into the gap and fixing it that way. Given my leak is on the top edge of the hatch the silicon will flow/sink into the seal area if the hatch is open when I inject it (I would do this from the inside of the glass so it doesn't look messy from the outside and the remaining uv seal will hide any mess). I know this is a bodge but it's really my only option for stopping the leak in the short term before winter really sets in. Has anyone else used this method? |

You could give it a try, at least as a stop gap repair, it may work... Long term, I think a lot of 944 owners have a "hatch reseal" in their future. |

It should work for a while. On my old turbo a previous owner had done the same and when I took the car to local hand car wash once they pressure washed out the sealer! This was the first time I knew it had been done. I re-filled it and it sealed for a few months but eventually the glass came un-bonded from the frame and popped up at the top edge. I got a replacement tailgate from Elliot for £50 so I was happy! |

I did the full glass out re-seal in my garden No specialist tools it is not that difficult to do right, however for speed a used tailgate seems the best option. |

My rear hatch is 95% in good condition and only a section about an inch long is looking problematic. Water doesn't gush in but you do get a few drips if the car is being pressure washed. Must also get seepage when it rains. My concern is that a replacement hatch is going to be not much better than this. And could be worse. Having just forked out for a replacement engine , a new clutch and new belts and rollers the piggy bank is empty so no funds for replacement hatch right now. Just want it watertight for winter. |
