I need a new battery for the 944 and have just seen the Eurocarparts 50% off offer - I want to order now from the office but don't have the car with me to see what size I need. Can anyone advise what I need?! Obviously want the correct physical dimensions so it fits where it is under the bonnet (not in the boot like an S2) - also any advice on cranking power etc.

Ta.

Ben

063 is the smallest standard battery that Id use. 065 is bigger but heavier but they can be very close to the bonnet. I used a section of inner tube rubber glued on to ensure that it didnt easily touch. I think that the original size was 075, but Im not certain.

Bosch sizes follow their own convention.

I think that a Bosch S3-007 is the same size as an 063... edited to add that I was wrong. The S?001 is their 063 size.

Why can't there just be:

Pre 85.5 944 Battery A (excellent), B (ok), C (absolute cack)?

Thanks, I think the last one mentioned is the one. I was hoping to order now but I always muck this kind of thing up so will go home, measure current battery, buy same size but Bosch.

They do.

I have sent Bosch a link to this thread. If they apply a little control tecnik they should be able to just use my patented A/B/C fitting from here on it.

Zooming on on their dimensions, it appears that an S3-001, S3-004 & S3-007 all have 175mmx175mm dimensions with their lengths being 207mm, 242mm and 278mm. Other models are either too long or their height is 190mm.

I will guess that the other models (S4, S5 etc) follow a similar convention.

So, a summary:

S3 is their cheapest range, with the quality and the cost (but not necessarily the value!) increasing through the S4, S5 and S6 ranges. The same naming convention is used through all ranges with, for example, the S3001, the S4001 and the S5001 being the same physical size.

The dimensions of the 001 model are: 175mm x 175mm x 207mm (this is an 063)
The dimensions of the 004 model are: 175mm x 175mm x 242mm (this is an 075)
The dimensions of the 007 model are: 175mm x 175mm x 278mm (this is an 069 or 96)

Hopefully this will help everyone.

Simon

FYI the battery in mine was 'snug' and was 270mm long, 175mm wide and 190mm tall.

An 067? After years of not being sure I have cracked the battery puzzle. 175mm and 190mm dimensions are the corner piece.
