since sarah got this porker she has been obsessed and after seeing the cars in such good condition at gaydon she decides its time to try and get her pride and joy in this section. so the task begun starting at the ground and working up.

the wheel rims were old and pitted pretty bad so without the money to have these pro polished i took on the task myself its slow but its coming on. with a trip to frost car restoration supplies and £80 lighter i got me a flexi drive for a drill but mounted it in the lathe (it spins faster and doesnt die) i set about the rim lips just one left to do. but one complete with paint. the rear of the rims are in poor shape but a cloud of dust later and they are almost in good shape.

while i was doing these sarah decided to remove the headlights and mechanism. this is being painted in VHT plate paint. (chrome look that can be lacqured) but the body behind or under the lamps and inner wings are well...as you can see....

I can remember attempting to hand polish a set of peugeot 1.9 gti alloys a good few years ago for my 205 and it must have taken me off and on about a month!

Im just starting to try to get my 944 into shape at the moment (i'll post a few pics in a new thread).

Nice to see others giving the attention these cars deserve, and i cant wait to crack on with mine :)

i'm only painting the wheels. the rims were terrible and its a tedious job bringing them back to shine. i got the buffing kits had these for a while but never had a flexi drive. most of the crud is sanded off with an orbital air sander with 360 grade paper then rubbed down with 1200 wet n dry then buffed but its still slow and laborious <-- big word for me this morning. then because i'm doin the job arse upwards the wheels are then stripped back to bare alu before being painted which is done out of the rain ;).

Wheels look so much better with a polished rim. I wonder if my Fuchs will come up like that, not a fan of the dull-ish silver paint on them at the moment.

They are looking fantastic, have you lacquered the outer edges or is it just regular polishing sessions?
