Post subject:  Windscreen Fitting

I have to fit a new windscreen to my 1984 944 and imo the later model cars look much tidier with the windscreens flush and a rubber seal instead of the clipped on surrounds. Has anyone here tried fitting a windscreen to an early model 944 in the same fashion as it is fitted in the later model cars? From what I've read so far the windscreen on the later model cars is glued to a frame about 9mm thick which is glued into the body shell. It would seem to me to be a matter of finding the appropriate seals and frame, removing the little clip mounts from the body shell and gluing it all together.

Where did you get all the required bits from? Breakers? Would you get 964russ to post how he does it?

Cheers

have a word with your nearest autoglass or whatever get them to order the glass and everything and tell the insurance the windscreen got broke via a large stone chip or golfball ;). but clear it with a windscreen place first.

I got a quote from autoglass of £500 fitted. I quoted a 1984 model at the time. This is a bit more that I wanted to pay, I wonder how much of that is fitting. I'd prob look at getting a second hand windscreen and do it myself to save $$.

I went through Autowindscreens and claimed against my insurance(£50 excess on the screen and no loss of no claims too)

Hi cococola! Did you mean that Autowindscreens changed yours from an old type to the later type for the excess fee? :?:

Mine needs a new windscreen too and I've toyed with the idea of getting a later style one as my aerial is snapped off :(

Don't think I can get it done on insurance as the car isn't insured at the moment and it's not on the road. Going to need somebody mobile to come and do it.

Don't suppose anybody has an early electric aerial they don't want after they've upgraded to a later style screen? ;)
