I would be grateful for some advice. My car has standard suspension and a set of Boge rear dampers which look pretty new, unblemished black paint and all clean legible stickers. However when I close the tailgate the back of the car goes down without too much resistance for a small deflection then stiffens up.It doesn't rebound more than the upstroke when coming back up. I was wondering if this is normal as the pressure required to make the deflection is not a lot. It seems to drive ok, it may feel a little loose in high speed corners but as I have no experience of these cars I not aware of what is normal. The car has done 78,000 miles but I don't know about the dampers. |

How many miles do you reckon the car has done on the dampers? FWIW I may be in the minority but I have never really been impressed with the life of Boge dampers unless the car does less than average miles. Certainly on something as mundane as a Mondeo I could tell the difference (genuine dampers (IIRC they are Sachs) from the stealers still damped well after 50k where the Boge 'OE' replacements seemed to get a bit 'meh' after 9,000 miles IME). Even the Bilstein B4s on the rear of the car became wallowy long before the replacement front Ford dampers (I admit the latter were pricey, but they certainly achieved much better handling and kept that attribute for quite some time. Another thing is a geometry setup can transform a 944. What may seem like a great drive to many can be shifted to another realm with a good geometry setup. |
