one of my customers has a full ready to run ls1 engine with motorsport loom and ecu ready to run, and he has offered it to me at a bargain price.

what are the main headaches installing one of these into a 944, best way to couple up with the torque tube? any issues with clearance on steering column etc

thinking of putting it into my 944t shell

info required asap

thanks
nick

There are kits but being right hand drive is a massive pain in the arse. Tony has had one for a good while, but still hasnt fitted it...

I so much want to do this conversion but decided not to do it to the turbo as it is an 'S'

I was talking to Renegrade Hybrids about their kit and the only thing I thought might be a problem is the drivers side manifold where it has to avoid the steering column. I know monkfish performance bought a kit and figured it all out but decided to only offer fully fitted conversions at £20k

if I buy it and end up selling it, I will turn a decent profit on it anyway so laugh all you like lol.

will likely buy it for stock wether its going in a 944 or not as I cant loose on it at the price it has been offered to me!

just thought if I have both the engine and a car in stock, I would look into the conversion and if its worthwhile doing. I have just finished my evo track build, and the caterham I am rebuilding is nearing completion aswell, so I will have more time for a new project.

can fabricate a custom or modified exhaust manifold if needed without issue, what about connecting the engine to the torque tube?

cheers

I found that there was two ways. Renegade and someone else I can't remember the name of sell a complete bell housing but most people seem to be using a Corvette C5 bell housing and using a fabricated adapter plate. I spent hours reading the "how to", "sticky" topics and FAQ pages on http://944hybrids.forumotion.com/

That is what I found. I'll find some links later.
I also have a book here on the LSx lumps if anyone wants to buy it.

Renegade Hybrids and Kennedy Engineering (KEP) would be the places I would talk to.. They have been providing a solution for the installation of these engines into 944's for around 15 or more years.

If you do some searches on the internet, you might stumble across lots of "arguments" some of which valid, some of which I believe were generated, because it seems at some point both these companies may have been in bed together, and during the "getting out of bed" with each other phase there was some serious bitching.

But I would take much of what you might find with a pinch of salt, as both companies are still running, and if you research the complaints fielded against both companies there seems to be no trail back to the persons making the complaints and both companies disputed that the complaining customer existed.

All very complicated, but at the end of the day I would trust buying off either company having read between the lines.

Having said all this, to be honest I do not think any of it is rocket science... A remote servo solution for the brakes and someone who can fabricate mounts and adapters is all you need... Probably a less complex conversion than the guy who was on here putting a lexus engine into a 944.

Do lots of research, see what parts are on offer, look good and hard at them and decide if you want an off the peg part or what you can learn from what you can see from the available parts and make your own.

About 20 years ago there was a British "person" called "Adie the Throp" who used to hang out at santa-pod with a Rover V8 powered 924 CGT who did some other 924 and 944 conversions... there were some breadcrumbs of info on the net about those cars and how the conversions were done.. well worth a read if they are still online... Last I heard, Adie the Throp was now living in Canada and rumours go around what sex "Adie the throp" was, is or has been!

Nothing quite as controversal than people putting V8's into Porsche cars, and often it is not the fact of transplanting an engine which is interesting, but the unusual gossip that is behind them!
