Hey all, my teledials arrived yesterday (7j all round) unfortunately I have an awful lot of arch space (not top to bottom) the car is an 85 944 - it appears to have front spacers but none in the rear - am I missing something, should I have spacers in the rear too? Or different wheels?

Yes.

You will probably need 23.3mm offset wheels and in all likelihood, have bought 52.3mm wheels

This problem can be exagerrated if the spacers (series one (MY82-MY85) 944s have a924 Turbo derived rear and have long studs and spacers from the factory to increase the track) that your car came with have stuck to the inner face of the original wheels.

This is extremely common (as is mixing up the offsets) and they can be separated by repeatedly hitting with a hammer and then swearing... :o)

After youve fitted the spacers the wheels will fit onto the car properly, but youll still need to buy spacers for the rear which incorporate their own studs. You can fit a set of factory spacers and long studs to the front to save money.

I might be easier to buy a set of 23.3mm offset telephone dials. These were only available on the 1986 model year 944, so theyre quite rare and theyre more expensive too.

Did the early 944's come with spacers and long studs on the front too?
Mine has long studs and two 10mm spacers for each front wheel - I assumed that this was a bodge so someone could fit late teledials to my early car!

Less of a bodge and more of an expedient adaption! :D

No they came on the rear only, but its a well used way to fit 52.3mm offset wheels without spending hundreds on spacers.

I don't suppose you know what length the front studs should be in non-expedienlty adapted form do you?
I have some cookie cutters awaiting refurb that I want to stick on it once done to get rid of it's gimpish stance!

The fronts on mine I can live wit but the rears look terrible - what size spacers am I looking for with 7j teledials on the rear?

The car in the picture doesn't have its OEM rear spacers fitted making it look even worse than it otherwise would.

Are the studs breaking through the alloy wheel nuts? The car will need hubcentric spacers which incorporate new studs, but the original spacers will need to be refitted first.

Presuming that you still have the rear wheels, then you need to remove the spacers which will have stuck to the inner face (you may need to use a hammer and chisel).
