Hello chaps,

I'm about to start figuring out a little electrical niggle.

My front lights on my early square dash all work ok apart from on full beam.

It goes like this:

First click of switch - sidelights both on ok
Second click - dipped beams on ok
Pull the stalk for full beam - offside fine, nearside one goes out

Any ideas before I start tinkering away?

Could it be something as simple as a trapped/frayed/broken connection? I kind of think not because the normal dipped beam works ok.

Blasted electrics!

I would go with an iffy earth. You could remove the light bulb from the offending light and then proceed to check for voltage in certain condition before checking the earth at the earth point on the bulb. A clean at the relevant connector should hopefully fix it.

When my series one track car developed an earth fault on the lights I ended up with dim-dip on the offside headlamp on a car built one model year before Porsche introduced the same feature.

I'd suspect a broken wire where it flexis as the pod goes up & down.

Thanks gents.

Electrics is where my knowledge and confidence meets its limits so I'm going to get a local auto electrician to hae a look. The car is being rally prepped so I think I'll just have him re-wire the front lights altogether. I'm putting a GPR 4 spot light pod on the front too so he can wire that in ready for installation too I guess.

Ta chums.

If youre doing that then Id suggest getting them directly wired Ben (OEM = all the current through the switch as opposed to using the switch current only to supply a control current for the relays which are wired directly to the battery). Thatll prevent your lights failing due to the switch overheating and itll provide a massive improvement over the 9v that theyre probably receiving at the moment.

Good thinking, thanks!

I've recently replaced every single exterior bulb with good Osram products, Nightbreaker Plus for the front. They're better but still not good enough for night stage rallying. I suspect the 4 Pod + direct wiring will have it waking the birds up!
