I had a look at the car when I was there on Friday. Should be interesting.....

In defence of our title, the 2014 restoration competition begins

Last year Porsche Centre Sutton Coldfield together with Shorade Accident Repair Centre, our Porsche recommended repairer, were the overall winners of Porsche’s 2013 National 911 Restoration Competition Finale. Our winning car was a 1990 model year 964 C2 Coupe.
This year Porsche is celebrating ‘40 years of Turbo’ – four decades since the introduction of the first Porsche production car, equipped with a turbo engine arrived back in 1974. As before, the national competition will provide a platform for our Centre to demonstrate its wealth of specialist knowledge, technical skills and experience in repairing, maintaining and caring for Porsche Classic models. We have recently purchased the following car for entry into this year's competition:
Model: 944 Turbo Coupe
Year of Manufacture: 1991
Colour: Guards Red
Engine capacity: 2,479cc
Mileage: 150,000

That looks like a cracking base for a restoration project, and being an OPC, I would expect the work to be top notch.

As an owner of a Guards Red 944 in need of some bodily restoration, I'll be watching this with interest. However I doubt you'll win if it's an official Porsche sanctioned competition (I expect a 911 will win - yawn). Porsche seem to have "forgotten" the 944 for some reason :(

Restoration? There's nothing wrong with it!

Alex you need to get your eyes fixed, it's pinker than Dannie La Rues feather boas :)

Should have been a 1986 turbo with deep dish teledials.

In my opinion the classic 944 turbo.

I'm colourblind! So in that case, it just needs a good polish. Surely a car requiring a restoration, is beyond any other form of repair, like the 911 that OPC Reading did last year.

No need to blow up the photos. Both sills are rotten as are the bottoms of the front wings on both sides. The car is also variegated pink.

944 turbo? 924 turbo's are where the smart money is heading. Even Magnus Walker has just bought his first front engine and water cooled Porsche ....... A 924 turbo!

It may be 40 years of Porsche turbo with the 930, but it's also 35 years of the (931) 924 turbo this year.

It is pink, and rotten and the interior is tired. It will be factory fresh (including a period radio) when it's finished though.

The car was supplied by Sutton Coldfield from new when they were based in Little Aston, so they have some history with it too.

Look forward to seeing this project progressing. My 91 Turbo came from Evans Halshaw in Little Aston before it moved and became OPC

I am now sorely regretting missing the two tone green Y registered series one that I have mentioned before...

I prefer this green option

It wasn't colour so much as the condition, with the exception of the bearings. Perfect brown dash and brown vinyl with green tartan fabric. None would be my choice but it was superb.

The 944 turbo's time will come but not until there are a lot less of them around, at least another 5 years probably.
