My wish has come true! Together with another TIPEC NW member, we are about to purchase a 1984 924 2.0l NA which will be converted into a track only car.

Due to pick up tomorrow. Pictures will follow of our find and also of the forthcoming build :D

i also have a nice 924 turbo thats fully race prepared, would make an awsome track car. in fact im very tempted to keep it myself and drop my 944 turbo lump in it to make something silly.

but everything has a price.

there is a build thread here

drop me a pm if interested.

thanks
nick

Following the tipec track day and a recent change of heart towards what makes a great track and road car, as well as reading and watching many reviews of the Toyota GT86, and more importantly how controlled but limited traction can make for a great fun car, I am inclined to say a 924 2.0, or even a 924S with a 3.0 16v engine, coupled with the car going on a strict diet and the right kind of suspension modifications could make for a awesome track car.

But for the time being, I have too many projects and not enough time.

Looks awesome.

Here's mine and I can confirm they are a hoot on track.

I'll look out for you at track days over the summer.

I am happy to report that I have seen the AML911 924 track day project car. Superb looking bit of kit bearing in mind the cash spent so far (which ain't much). I'm sure Tony will be providing updates here and there's a good chance of an All Torque feature or two. Exciting times!

Good progress on a glorious bank holiday Monday. I should introduce, by name at least, my co-owning partner in this project Colin Hammerton. Colin is the professional mechanic and I mainly take the pictures, although today I did get my hands dirty dismantling the front suspension.

Now we have had a good look at the shell it is solid without rot. :) The engine has high oil pressure when running. The car was an insurance write off because of minor panel damage and was subsequently used as a hill climb car and then a track day car. Interior had been partially stripped. Engine had already been upgraded with a Piper high lift camshaft and larger throttle body. The car had already been lowered with the torsion bar re-indexed. Braided steel brake hoses had been fitted.

Front suspension came of with a little gentle persuasion today. All components will be cleaned, blasted, plated or powdercoated as required. Struts will be rebuilt with new coil springs (the existing springs had been shortened in lowering the car) and gas filled shocks. Calipers will be refurbished ready for the new discs/pads. Suspension will be poly bushed throughout and a larger 23-25 mm ARB will be fitted..... after this lot has been completed we'll attack the the rear suspension set up.

A satisfying days work :D here are a few pics

Update: Colin has been busy while I've been sunbathing in Turkey :)

Parts have been sourced or are on order. Front suspension/brakes refurbished, although not yet back on car as we await arrival of the Gaz adjustable shocks. A beefier 25.5mm ARB to be fitted to front and a strut brace. Disc are to be cross drilled

New orange paint has appeared on the body, and new decals to be added. Door cards replaced with aluminium sheets.

We don't think much needs doing to the rear suspension, as a lot of work has recently been done. However we will fabricate and add a new bracket for a rear ARB, obtain new racing grade shoes and new springs for the rear drums and fit adjustable Gaz shocks to rear.
