I've found 4 new W rated sport contacts in the right sizes on the bay. total price £310.

to get the N rated sport contacts i'd be looking at £400

worth the extra cake?

thanks,

rick.

Depends what you're putting them on TBH. Anything pre-1990 wouldn't have had any N rated tyre so a bit irrelevant.
I don't bother on the 944 with N rating.

Hi :)

You are mixing up two different things...

N rating is to do with whether they have been tested by Porsche and the tyre manufacturer..an N rated tyre will ALSO have a speed rating on it....

W rating is a SPEED rating and its for a max speed of 168 mph.....if you want a faster tyre , go for a Y rated = 186 mph....

All the best Brett :)

Bretts correct- as I understand the 'N' rating means approval by porsche.
On a 944 I would never bother with the extra expense. Also I think there are better tyres than the contis to match the car too. I won't be re-fitting contis to mine next any road.

sorry guys, title wasn't very well put.

what i meant to ask was:

is it worth the extra money for an n rated version of the same tyre?

i'm aware that the n rating is a porsche thing, but i have read a few places that the N rated tyres have softer compound/stiffer sidewalls ect. developed in conjunction with porsche themselves. apparently with RR drive layouts N rating is very important, just looking for peoples experiences in FR cars like our 944's.

Hi :)

Are N rated worth it....

In my opinion ...NO

Its a little complicated but as Jim said, our cars are too old really for N ratings to apply, and also tyre technology has moved on from the years when our tyres were tested for N rating...

I "could" buy N rated for my 928 as I have huge 996 wheels and tyres...18 x 10 etc, BUT they were N rated on a 996... NOT on a 928....

To be honest , I usually go by make, and I use Falkens which are fantastic in the dry and good in the wet...

But with my Nitrous I usually only get around 2000 to 3000 from a set on the rear lol...

If I were you I would go for a make that others owners of your particular model of Porsche recommend (assuming normal size wheels)

All the best Brett :)

Yup that's the way I read it actually.
I run on Goodyear GSD3 F1 & would probably change to Falkens when I renew but now my mileage has dropped big time these will die of old age before they wear out. Although if I ever get the blower & the S2 lump sorted then that may change.
