Hi all< Just a quick question. As you may recall from my previous posts, on inspection both my front wings and sills need replacing, plus some other work, and then what is effectively a full respray. All in the quote was £4,500's which i really can't afford. I've read a few posts which mention fiberglass wings / sills, and I was just wondering - are these an acceptable replacement or are they frowned upon? Personally i'd like to use genuine parts, but i guess one benefit is that they won't rust! ![]() Grateful for any opinions. Thanks, |

I think they are used on race cars for weight reduction, which you would also benefit from. The repair procedure for dents etc will be different than for metal panels, i'm not sure which would be more expensive. Edit, thinking about it you prob get cracks with fiberglass not dents ![]() |

Hi, I'm in Hayes West London. I don't think the sills are that bad, as they've had some work previously. The front wings seem to be the main thing. All you can see is some bubbling on the lower parts, but two body shops have said that they will be rotted through, and the only way to address this is to replace them. Just a few spots at the base of the screen pillars, and around the screen edge, but apparently that requires removing the screen. Back wings are salvageable. The car has a fantastic service history, drives amazingly, and the interior is in great condition, so I really feel that she deserves saving. For now I think I'm just going to get the belts and hoses done and then try and save up the money for the body work. I know the sensible thing would be to let her go, but i kind of feel a sense of responsibility now ![]() Damien. |

Damo, post some pics up, is the car taxed and mot'd? i could probably salvage everything for you rather than buy new and i don't mean fill everything with bog. i ask about road legality due to the fact i'm manchester based and the car will need bringing sunny side up. whats your quotes so far? |

If the sills are bad on the outside & especially if they've been bodged they will be a thousand times worse on the inners & floors. Mine is here http://www.pbase.com/tr7v8/porsche_repair_pics But get a stiff drink & pack small children away to bed & sit down before you view. God knows what was supporting the seat belts as they mount high up on the inner sills. |

Hi Guys, Thanks for the offer Colt! Really appreciate it. I've had two quotes. One was informal - took a look and said it would be in the region of £3000 at least. Second one was formal written quote, and came in at £4,500, but that was for the full works including an almost total respray. Apparently its had a poor paint job before on one side (feels rough) probably after someone has a go at the sills before. I'm off to work now, but I'll try and get some pics taken today and post them. Probably won't be till tomorrow now though, as I'm off to the O2 tonight. ![]() I'm going to keep a look out for some s/h wings as well. Thanks again, Damien, |

Yup cost was £1,400 at Chilham Sports cars & bare in mind their labour rate is £30 PH not the £50 -£80 more common around here. Including 2 exchange wishbones & an exhaust the total MOT cost was near £2k Scary Huh! ![]() One of the sills was more pud than metal & interleaved in the pud was various bits of scrap sheet metal, one side about 2ft loong must have weighed around 6-8 pounds ![]() Luckily this years was better, 2 brake flexis from Roger & some brake fluid & a couple of made up brake pipes total cost Nil as I had most of it. |

Just to let you know pictures are coming! Been crazy at work recently, but I'm off this weekend so I'll have time to get them done and uploaded. I was just having another look around the internet and came across the club autosport site, and more specifically the fibreglass wing panels they provide. http://212.67.202.62/~clubauto/panels%20924-944-928-968.htm Has anyone actually seen / used these, or had and dealing with club auto sport? I'd really prefer to put on 'real' wings if I can't repair the present ones, but if these are any good then the saving might swing me ![]() Oh - hope you all had a good time at gaydon btw. Damien |
