I have found my VIL or 'options' label to be on the rear wall of the spare wheel well on my '90 944 Turbo and have been told that this is where late cars and 968's had them,is this correct as my buyers guide only mentions the rear panel location next to the n/side rear light?
Also, how can I find out if my car was originally fitted with a bridge spoiler or not? As I'm having it professionally re-painted I have the option of fitting either when finished and I have no preference so would rather fit what it originally came with.

Not sure if that was a optune code. Think the very last cars came with it, 91

Sell the spoiler if u don't have a prefence

option code labels were on the rear panel next to n/s rear lights , it is possible that yours was moved if it became wet or was replaced after a repair. The bridge spoilers were fitted later in 91 in prep for 968 launch.

I was a bit confused with the bridge spoiler as my buyers guide says they were fitted from '90 model year in black and colour coded in'91 so I wondered if you can tell by the vin or something exactly when bridge spoilers started? I've seen '90 cars advertised as being genuine bridge spoiler models before but I wondered if it was clear cut that all '90 models had them or they just started fitting them during '90 model production so some early '90 models had previous type?

^ I have seen a lot of 90 cars with a black one, i think too many to be aftermarket tbh.

Mid way through 89 S2's and Turbos received a new type of tailgate glass with a different hole size for the wiper arm, different wiper motor, but still with the rubber spoiler.

Mid way through 90, S2's and Turbo recieved a bridge spoiler onto this same glass, same wiper arm, same motor as the mid way through 89 cars, but with a different frame to accept the bridge spoiler.

Porsche model years run from mid year to mid year... So midway through 89 is actually a 90 model year... then mid way through 1990, the cars are 91 model years.

So, a bridge spoiler should be on a 91 model year, but may have been made and registered late in 1990 so will be registered as a 1990 car.

Also, as far as I know, unless someone paid a dealer or Porsche approved bodyshop (or an indi one) to paint the bridge spoiler, until the 968, all 944's with a factory bridge spoiler were black ones.

Mine is a 90 and it came with an older style spoiler. The PO had it replaced with a bridge spoiler painted guards to match the car - I have the bill for the bridge spoiler assembly from Porsche in the late 90s and it is not pretty reading. I think I'd have stuck to the original much though I prefer the bridge look!

I don't have Peter Morgans buyers guide with me at the moment but I'm pretty sure he says they were black for the '90 year and body colour for the last '91 year cars. My car is definately a '90 year car but it looks like the build and model years not necesarily being the same means I think I'll ask my nearest opc if they can find out from my vin no. to be sure.

My turbo was registered in Aug 91 but when I checked the build date I think it was built in late 1990. It has the black bridge spoiler.

My 91 registered car (J Reg) was built late 1990 and has a black bridge spoiler fitted which is how it left Porsche

how can you tell if they were built early or late in the year then?
btw, i've just been on the rennlist forum searching under build date and there are folks on there mentioning the V.I.L. label being in the spare wheel area also,so it would appear they were also located there after all.
