..... the 44 had some bubbles and a hole in the rear sil just before the wheel on n/s but after getting out the grinder i found this near the rear light.... so i set about fixing it.... meanwhile i have done the holes in the sils, cutting out the old and putting new in, btw i dont buy panels i make my own ![]() usual stamp they was rotten where they usually go but now good as new....ok back to the light... made up some bits and welded them in and fixed the boot carpet holder... should be ready for paint come tomorrow lunch time ![]() |

Well done, that looks like quite a tricky corner to do. Did you remove the fuel tank? |

no i left that in there is quite a large space to work round but yes it was tricky as hell, should look better once i finished it up ![]() i dont know why people can't do repairs like this in the first place rather than fill with kipper and shower bath sealer silicon. i now goto figure out the shape of it. would appreciate someone taking a downward shot of the rear 1/4 where it meets the back panel so i can work off that ![]() |

I'd love to be able to do repairs like that but I don't have a clue when it comes to welding. Only really know the mechanical stuff from fiddling about on previous cars and leaning from doing/making mistakes but I'd like to skip the mistake part with this car ![]() |

i have been in the trade most of my life mate so it all comes second nature. i dont just do mechanical or body work i do the works mechanical, welding, body work inc panel beating, paint prep and spraying. i make alot of my own stuff, i love making exhausts and one day i will make the perfect sound with one ![]() still need a down shot of the rear 1/4 tho ![]() oh forgot to mention.....i spent a morning in the paint shop rummaging colour chips with the petrol flap, no Porsche white matched! onto BMW..nope non of them either...VW/Audi....nope! it came down to.... ... citroen colour ![]() its been painted at some time in its life in a blody citroen colour lol.... unbelievable!!! |

i do mine out in all weathers mate, manchester isn't the best place for sun so we have to make do with whatever it throws at us. but get on it asap it will only get worse, oh and cut out the old rotten stuff first or it will only grow through the new. |

Yup in theory that's what mine is but unless Stevie Wonder did the paint match when they did the sills then it ain't no longer! Rusty cars are mega scary because you don't know what you're going to find once you start poking & grinding! |

Post subject: | Re: ooh a bit rotten..... |
the problem is that people very similar to me who may or maynot work in or own a garage have ideas of how to brighten something up, the citroen white that is on this is whiter than any porsche colour. But its been poorly repaired body wise which is a real shame because the paint job they done is bang on. i'm a bugger for changing colours of a car to suit my taste but will do my best to repair another with the perfect paint match. if this 44 had a colout code on the car i would have bought 1/2 litre of the wrong colour so its really a blessing that the code badge was/is missing. anyway further updates of the progress later today ![]() |

this is the part i'm concerned about i think they kippered it do run as a straight line but i cant see porsche banging loads of kipper on a car so i'd like to keep it to a minimum, and all i have done id replace metal keeping dimensions so am i right in what i'm thinking and doing or is it a clean continuation of the rear 1/4 line to the rear valance?
