just got a 944 2.5 ( not mine my g/fs) and apart from a few odds n sods it requires very little, i'm very good with cars and usually specialize in jap performance....ah haa no not the usual i'm into mitsu GTO's heavily. anyway i refuse point blank to pay £400 for a clutch kit simply for a noisy thrust bearing, is there any matches that are the same as this maybe golf or something? or is there a secret supplier that will sell a thrust bearing separately? the clutch is fine its just a bit noisy. |

Hi, have you tried Euro car parts or berlyn sevices (partsforporsche.co.uk), they should have good quality kits and you can get a discount if you join the club. They may also be able to supplt just the bearing, but in my opinion, it would be best to change the lot while you're in there to save doing the same thing again in 6 months or so. Hope that helps. thanks Matt i'll give euro a ring tomorrow and german and swedish, i'd prefer to simply replace whats broke rather than whats not broke, i'm not really into spending on things that don't require replacement. apart from this and two minor rust spots on the rear cil's and a switch missing from the mirror control its in excellent shape

Unless you are talking about the spigot bearing in the centre of the clutch, I don't think I've ever seen the thrust bearing as a seperate part. You can get a clutch kit for the 2.5 from around £300 + vat and if I'd gone to all the effort to get to the clutch (at least 8 hours of dismantling on a N/A 2.5) then I would change the whole thing once you're in there before you then spend another 8 hours putting everything back together again |

nice easy job then? cant be as bad as a AWD GTO i can do a complete clutch refit on these in 5 hours, so a rear mounted gearbox should be a cake

I have done an engine change and a clutch job (amongst other things) and i'm not sure which took longer. Best of luck but i'm sure you will find the clutch needs doing when you pull it apart, particulary if its on the original which a surprising number of cars are. I think the book time for a clutch is 12 hours |

oh well in that case.......let the fun begin .... wait! i need to sorce some bits first!think i'll let it run noisy for a while till the clutch starts to go, saz will want to drive it soon as its taxed and on the road so the minor bits first i think
