Hi everyone! I'm new to 944 ownership (1982 2.5), and have found a few things that need fixing after driving her home and having a quick look.

One problem is the passenger door lock. It has a problem in that the key doesn't turn the lock for some reason. So, could be either a lock replacement that doesn't allow the key to fit (which would be a bit silly), or a broken component of the lock? Any thoughts?

The other question is where to get trim clips/screws from. The passenger door bin is not really attached and I was wondering whther it's a case of going to a breaker or whether Porsche still sell these?

I have a slight leak too - around the crankshaft pulley area I think. Could be a seal but I need to find out. Is that a big job, or possible to DIY?

With the front engine oil leak, clean down the area and monitor it. If it is a crankshaft seal, I would recommend you tackle it as part of the same job as a cam and balance belt replacement.

Not the biggest job in the world, but it needs to be done right and will take some courage.

I have been thinking of sorting out a seminar for changing the 944 cam and balance belt, where I will show people how to do it with a DIY handout sheet showing how to do the job. I did this about 10 years ago for PCGB and had about 15 to 20 people come along. If there is enough interest, I will do one again.

For all the trim clips and odds and ends, they are all available from Porsche, and if you contact us we will be able to supply them (if you join the club you get a 10% discount) but if you have a long list of individual faffy clips, screws and odds and ends you need that will fit in a jiffy bag, that you do not mind being used parts, we will put it together as a freebee if you join the club!

Welcome along to Porsche ownership... there may be tears along the way, but you will also get a massive amount of grins!

We will be have a demonstrations section at the show next September

If you need a donor car mine is due for its 2nd Cam/Balance Belts roller/Water Pump change (4years) + some TLC next April/May. I would certainly be interested in seeing "How it's done"

Well, I will look into doing a seminar for 944 owners on changing the belts at some point in the near future.

I am sure your region has some good active meets, so you are sure to benefit from your membership as well as getting discounts and making some new friends, some of which may well help you out when you need to do something to your 944.

Clive, how long have you had the car now? Has it been that long that the belts are due??

Hi from another 1982 owner. Great cars and reasonably simple to work on.

I'll be having the belts done next year and may tackle myself except I know it's better for a pro to work the car over.

Do you know by chance if the 1982 model has an immobiliser? Ithink the alarm on mine has been messed with and is now deactivated but I wondered whether it has an immobiliser or not.

The car is currently in my Dad's garage - can't wait until the weekend when I can go and drive it and sort a few simple jobs

Don't think it has a factory immobiliser. Yours could have had an aftermarket alarm/immobiliser.
Mine is nice and basic. Only 'luxury' is electric windows and they are slow

Thanks. It sounded from the previous owner like an alarm had been fitted but the way it was wired in caused some issues and now it is deactivated.

Same here, mine's also a basic model. It has had side skirts added but I actually quite like these. The previous owner put on a stripe and PORSCHE lettering on the bonnet - not sure that they will be staying. Can't decide!
