Hi All,

I finally got my 89 2.7l running after a full belt change, water pump and general service. Fired up first time and is running an absolute treat....apart from a fuel leak!

I've traced it back to the 'front' if the rear wheel arch if that makes sense. There are some pipe connectors but it doesn't appear to be those. Following the pipe towards the engine they pass through a camp which holds them down, leak looks to be coming from in there (I guess they may have rubbed).

Problem I have is that I can't get this off. It is a metal piece sat on rubbers with a round plastic piece in the middle holding everything down - how does this come off. It looks to have an allen key hole in the middle but the keys just spin round (it is stripped). I can't seem to prise it off which is annoying - any ideas or suggestions?

The car only leaks when the engine is running, I've therefore guessed it is on the return line but that may not be the case.

Any helpwould be appreciated as I don't fancy forking out to take it to a garage to have it fixed!

Are you going the cut and sleve the leak with rubber?

Thats what I was thinking, but first up was to identify exactly where it is leaking and if it is output or return line. Once I've got hat I will have a look at the options. The lines look pretty rusted but aren't leaking anywhere else.

Once the fuel pipes get to a certain level of crustyness, they tend to start leaking and weaping through the crust of corrosion. Normally the high pressure one first.

I would recommend you replace the fuel lines, we do a kit, as do a few places.

I would not recommend sleeving the feed pipe with rubber, but you can on the return. We use a composite pipe for our kits, as used on modern cars, attaching it to the original pipes with specially designed compression fittings designed to couple up to the original pipes (where they are not corroded) and also be compatible with the composite hose, with inserts and fuel resistance.

Well done with doing your own belt job!

Whats the damage on a set of pipes, in club and out of it - I'm not in club yet as was going to wait till I had it running but if the discount is enough then it could tip me over!

Any ideas on how to get this clamp off? I can post a picture of the offending piece if that helps?

They are held on by a pin fixed to the body you can buy replacements for a few pounds the centre piece pulls out with
grips our use a large screw driver.Replaced mine front to back in flexible pipes ,to fit rigid requires dropping the rear beam.
Not cheap which ever way you do it but you would not want fuel leaking at 3 bar pressure.look on u tube there are pictures of burnt out cars where pipes have failed.

I've finally had some time to work on the car and have identified that it is the return line that is leaking (must have a hole because it is coming out at a furious rate!

Its right towards the end of the long section that runs the length of the car. I think I'd rather fit new flexable hose than try and repair it.

From what I can see there is a spare space in the clips that run the length of the car so I was thinking of just leaving the old hose in place (air blown down it so there is no fuel left) and running the new one alongside it.

Can anybody suggest what I need to be ordering (and from where) to complete this - I guess new hoses will mean I'll need new connectors to hook up to the other parts, or do they come with them? I'm on a budget so can't really afford to get this done by a garage!

I will take some pictures tongiht and (attempt to) post them later so you can see where the leak is and the problems I'm having with the retaining clips!

Thanks

Ryan
