Hello, Just bough an 84 944 2.5. Took it for the MOt and got thrown out because of a fuel leak. Got that fixed now, but while it was in for the MOT they did manage to do an emissions check and it failed spectacularly. The guy reckoned it was because it had been stood, but as this is my first Porsche i'm not sure where to look. I know some cars have a silly sensor that can cause this so i thought i would ask the people who know! Any help or pointers much appreciated. c.

Your '44 is older than mine & mine is too old for an emissions check. Thought that only came in after 1992?? Bet the guys down at the mot station arn't used to testing classic cars. Have a friend with a Westfield. It needs a test but will only pass it when warmed up after a drive & then left to idle for a few minutes. Took a while to find a station that would allow that. But it's year 2000. (twin 40's no cat.) Hello by the way. ![]() |

Firstly Hi & Welcome  Yes it does have an emissions test although a reduced one. The two common reasons for emissions off the scale are a knackered air flow meter & a knackered/mis-adjusted throttle position switch. I assume plugs are Ok & the air filter is clean. PS Kit cars don't generally do emissions tests unless relatively new. |

thanks guys! i don't think it was the 'full' check as it clearly doesn't need a CAT check. I will have a look at those items and see where that gets me. c. |

Put a new K&N panel filter in and a set of plugs and it still recorded 5.4% I think the pass limit is 4.5% Mine has been stood for nearly a year apart from one 3 mile round trip last week ![]() Anything else other than AFM ot TPS? |

Check the air filter, they seem to choke up pretty quick on 944's. If it's still legal, run the tank lowish & chuck some injector cleaner in & give it a good razz down an A road or motorway. Otherwise yes it'll be check the TPS switch & then swap the AFM, Jon Mitchell in Bournemouth can check & reset them or it's a s/h one for around £50 (get a guarantee!) nor new 'uns are around £200ish go to a Bosch specialist rather than an OPC. |
