Some might say this is overpriced, but from experience, a very good original turbo is hard to find these days as people that have one are unlikely to part with it, and what often looks like a good car in an advert is often a not so good car under inspection.

If maintenance on one of these is not up to date, it can cost a fortune to get up to speed, and sometimes it is a million little jobs that need doing, mechanical, electrical or cosmetic, that add up to a fortune.

You could easily buy what seems to be a good car, only to find the waterpump, belts, engine oil seals, shocks, wheel bearings, exhaust, head gasket, clutch etc etc are all reaching the end of their life, which can turn into an expensive exercise.

Some people argue with me and say that an £8k turbo is top money, but I have seen plenty of £8k turbos need another £4k spending on them to make them good, or another £8k to make them as good as they would have been when they were under 10 years old.

I have turned down offers on my white standard 86 turbo of £15k, 50% of those offers came from 944 turbo enthusiasts who want a good factory fresh example and know all too well how much it costs to get one there..

Crazy thing is, once you get one there, it does not take much to keep it there.. I guess it is just a case of spending time and money reversing the "fun" that previous owners have had without the love that should go hand in hand with it.

Every day more turbo's are scrapped, every day another one is bought by someone who will not look after it, every day a good turbo becomes a rarer car.

Having said that, a rough one is not worth a lot, as you will be amazed what can be lurking.. I recently bid £1500 on one that we have been storing for a customer for 3 or 4 years. It is not a bad car, but to get it to become a great car will cost thousands to just catch up on maintenance that it has lacked in recent years.. It had new belts before it was stored.. they are due again, it has been serviced every year while it has been here, but to sell it I would need to replace the head gasket, waterpump, rollers, tensioners, fuel pump, shock absorbers, exhaust, and much more, even if just as a precaution... let alone every 20 year old coolant pipe, bush, fuel pipes, brake flexi's, caliper rebuild.

I guess what I am saying is the price divide between a rough 944 turbo and a great 944 turbo is getting wider, and as it does so, the gap between a good 944 turbo and a great one gets wider also.

So if you have a 944 turbo, do not worry about if you are doing the right thing making it a great one, it is worth it and it will pay you back in spades with how the car performs and drives, and so if you do sell one that is great, there are people out there who will buy it... More people than you imagine.

I would price a great 944 turbo at between £9k and £15k... If it has super crazy low mileage, then it is worth even more.

Low mileage because the car should off seen little wear, Interoir and exterior or is low mileage just Cas the car thought 2 be closer 2 new? Mine is used daily, Iv done 4000 milesage all ready. But it's well loved, half them miles are from driving around car parks trying 2 find the best spot, 2 prevent dings and carless collisions.

Havnt said that Iv found a door ding on my drivers door, pretty sure it was from last Sunday. Parked panssangers side as close 2 a lamp post between parking spaces givin the next car plenty off space, came back 2 find a new shaped mini, parked closer then nessery. Couldn't see the ding then but spotted it wed and the car hadn't move between then so couldn't off been another time. Hopefully paintless dent removal will sort it.

Not been question the vaule off the car but in the pics the bumper and wing mirror looks a differnt shade,

To be honest, I would not be put off by mileage personally.

Never seen a worn out 944 engine. Valve guides, water pumps, chain pads, tensioners, rollers, seals and gaskets, but never a worn engine...

So in short, everything that wears out on a 44 tends to last 80k or 8 years, everything else only dies because of a non mileage related failure.

We have several 200k and even 300k cars on the books that are tip top

However, as these beasts get older, it becomes more unusual to see low mile ones, which adds to value even though it should not judge the car as good or bad

In some ways, I would say a car with 150k will be better than one at 30k miles

Would agree with that Jon, my 161,000mile 944 Turbo is certainly a lot better than my 32,000mile S2 Cab was :lol:
(Mind you, as you know it has a Simon Peckham Tweaked Engine which has only done 13,000mls and has been serviced by JMG for the last 6 years so that explains a lot. :wink: ) Hope the next 6 years are as good.

Paul Stevens also has a "Porsche 944 Turbo S - Deposit Taken - £10,995" which was owned by a member of the Tipec Synn Region (he upgraded :?: to a 993 Targa)
