I understand the principle ie less drag and frothing of the sump oil though I wonder if there is less oil thrown from the crank onto the lower areas of the bores, particularly relevant on the 3.0 blocks with the shallower water jackets ?. |

The big thing is they disrupt the vortex of oil that builds up within the crank, which weighs a considerable amount and adds drag to the crank, so should release power. But also, it should cause the oil to be less airborne, splashing back off the block from the crank back to the rotating crank again. There is also a lot of other issues. There will always be enough oil leaving the crank bearings and heading towards the bores to keep them lubricated, even with a crank scraper. . |

I see, I just wonder if it needs to be designed by a boffin who really understands whats going on inside the block. What works on race engines with planned rebuilds based on hours may not fly on road engines for the sake slightly quicker rev gain. |

Unless your aiming for ultimate, I probably would not bother, may be worth a very few BHP and ideally needs to be made by someone who really understands these engines. |

Sort of what I thought, one of those parts that saves a few 1/10ths on a racetrack but does little on a relatively low revving 8V turbo road engine. |
