first things first hello all
been trying to get on here for a week or so and with a little help off Jim i made thanks Jim.
well in two and a half weeks of ownership i have managed to blow my head-gasket no water in the oil but 5 litres of oil in the water now in garage being sorted.
garage say plastics covering belts fell to bits when taking them off another little bill.
and brakes went awol on way to garage either servo or maybe front calipers need att.
is there anything else i should expect in the near future?
and should i have kept the skyline instead?
anyway loved it up to know maybe it will get better and its s/h and colour what swayed me to it.

It's all part of the teething process of getting another car & it'll be fine once sorted.

The first few weeks of ownership can be hard on the wallet if you didn't buy right. But once sorted the '44 is a great car. Hope you didn't pay top doller for it. After the fixing loads on mine in the first 3 months the last two services cost me £150 total including parts & it's been totaly reliable as a daily drive. Bet you couldn't get 30mpg from your skyline

sorry you've had a bad start to 944 ownership, they are not bad cars as you will find once the teething problems are sorted

had a look at the head today and its pitted in quite a few places but the gasket looked good (it was a turbo gasket) just cant see how the oil got into the water?

First gotcha of 944 ownership, it isn't the headgasket more likely the oil cooler which is under the oil filter. You'll need a seal set for it. Google pelican or clarkes garage for the rebuild details.

Mine needed a new cooler as the seals had gone on the element. The good news is it's much easier to get at with the head removed. Might as well give the head an overhaul while it's off & when was the water pump last changed???? (If you do it. Do it right then you don't need to go there again for awhile!)

water pump changed 2k ago JJ as where the belts but gonna do them anyway.
got a fresh cooler from my local 944 breaker just 5 miles away and a fresh head (some of the pitting was really deep up to 2mm) just need the seals now.
this is what i am driving while the 944 is in dock bit of a change.

Quite a contrast. What actualy is it?

its a 1952 ford prefect JJ 10hp just about handle the power but the ride and steering is something else

10 HP Thats about 7 at the wheels! (If it's fit.) Think I gained more than that with my exhaust At least it goes......

I paid £400 for mine of ebay. (mistake I know!)
It's in for it's mot today and I have everything crossed.
Hopefully I can escape any big bills for a while.

Damn youngsters no it's 10 HP Tax Rating NOT 10BHP! It''s an 1172cc sidevalve & makes around 27BHP if I remember rightly. I had a 100E Pop which is the same engine with a few mods like a water pump & colleted valves (this one has no water pump!)
