QUESTION: How DO you change the side light bulb? Am I right in thinking its not as easy as it should be? Any suggestions?

According to the haynes manual I have it says to look under the front of the car and you will see two plastic knurled knobs on the sidelight. Undo them and pull off the rear portion of the side light and change the bulb.

I cannot check this as mine is an S2.

Good luck with it.

Do you mean the one in the head light or in the driving light in the bumper? The one in the bumper is easy. Just remove the black rubber over-rider. (One screw) then behind that are 3 screws. Take them out & the cover hinges back. Then you can get at the screws holding the spot light in! Havn't done the ones in the headlights yet! :)

Add to that drill out the rusted/sheered bolts and re-tap or replace with self tapping screws

Thanks guys for all your comments. Got down to the car, undid the single screw to reveal....yep, I've got three rusted screws!! :( Looks like I'll have to get the drill out and get busy!! Very concerned when I undo the three screws, will the trim pull back or does it just break off? Not liking the idea of that! Need some confidence boosting to the do the job!

Regards

The trim comes off very easily once you get the 3 screws undone/drilled out/snapped off, you would have to try really hard to damage it.
If you do get them undone a bit of copperslip or grease on the bolts will make life easier next time

I think the Haynes manual I have is an American version, hence the different instructions because of the American safety bumpers. Another great buy off Ebay! I have to say I don't remember going under the car or having to put it on 'jackstands' - as the book says, when I had my 1989 944 2.7 Lux about eight years ago. By the way, that was a much more comfortable car than the S2.
